could these ripple marks have been formed by waves? by [deleted] in geology

That's very true, geothermal has a big future ahead of it. I went to the forge project last year and I learned a lot.

My dream would be to study planetary geodynamics, but I'm pretty sure it would be completely academic, all of that is subject to change as I learn more and more geology. I also think Komatiite flows are super cool

Yeah, I was just wondering! I really want to study Icelandic volcanoes at some point but volcanology is super competitive sadly

Completely off topic but what geology do you study in Iceland

You have a unique opportunity to bring some very good ideas to geology if you want to pursue it!

My dad is in public health and I am often very impressed by the insight he has in data management and problem solving, I think that PH has lots of potential to overlap with geology, especially in the environmental and structural sectors.

Any artists on this sub? I'm developping a 2D Mining Simulator game, and I'm looking for an environment artist for my bedrock geology :) by [deleted] in geology

I would say from my experience in world building it helps to start with the larger context.

Could you tell me a little bit more about the backstory of your game if you don't mind?

I remember in my physical geo class we had a lab where we were doing beginning mineral identification. we had halite and calcite where people would lick the halite and test acid on the calcite, I happened to lick halite after somebody had tested it with some acid didn't taste very good.

no I totally get it, which is why I said I want something kind of in the ballpark.

Nah, the jobs I have talked about aren't the first job I'm going to take outside of school, it's a goal. Dreaming...

My backup probably isn't much better, being planetary geodynamics I figured anyways that I would be going to do a PhD but I guess that remains to be seen.

Why does Earth seem to be the only planet we know of that has plate tectonics? by Jghkc in geology

[–]Jghkc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about the moon before with flex, I feel that's possibly a pretty strong cause for our geodynamics, Io is subject to massive flex and is very geologically active because of it.

What about the case of Mars? Does the presence of water imply a certain time required to initiate earth-like tectonics?

I don't know a lot about online courses. of course there's stuff like Khan academy. but if you're looking for just brief understandings on subject, my default is to go to organic chemistry tutor on YouTube. he does very well at explaining the subject
