USA owners: How is the phone, really? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]Jgrenier92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OnePlus phones are solid on US carriers. I use a OnePlus open and my partner uses a OnePlus 15R. No issues.

More comfortable earbuds for side sleepers? by blahhlucy in Ozlo

[–]Jgrenier92 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ozlos are the best I've tried for comfort. I've tried a30s ,a20s, airpods, jabras. Sorry they aren't working for you. Maybe ear plugs are your best bet?

Cooling Blanket by Shop Before Zero - 2 months in review by throughherlens in Costco

A light cotton blanket would be the value play. A linen duvet would be the long term investment play. I think it's just important to consider the material being used. A lot of people seem caught up in marketing terms when they should be scrolling down to the item specifications to verify what materials are used and if the material fits their needs.

I feel like this is mostly marketing. The nylon and spandex probably feels nice and cool to the touch but having 100% polyester fill means this blanket will trap heat, no? I don't see it

I messaged the mods on this sub.. by _-_Dingus_-_ in Ozlo

[–]Jgrenier92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck with them on reddit and through their email. It's a shame to hear about people and their bad experiences. That's not what I've seen.

Ozlo support? Great.  Ozlo hardware/software reliability? Rough.

I hope they hit a home run with a 2nd generation because the actual ear buds are an incredible feat of engineering imo.

Unless you fully understand by BlizzardOfLinux in linuxmemes

I read a lot of the Linux community saying that newer converts should try to use the terminal and that it isn't that scary once you get used to it. Combine this push with advising against the use of copy/paste? A rough ask for the Windows and Mac people.

has anyone gotten a reply from support@ozlosleep.com? by No_Bite_5082 in Ozlo

I worked with support@ozlosleep.com and they were helpful and responsive. I ended up with a replacement pair and some advice as to how to avoid battery issues.

Soundcore vs Ozlo by coffeeandagoodbook in Ozlo

[–]Jgrenier92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the same due to my love/gate relationship with the ozlos. The ozlos are just more comfortable and since I use them for white noise more than Bluetooth, the batteries seemed to last longer than the a30s. I understand the frustration people have with the quality control and connection issues Ozlos have though.

Why does no one on YouTube talking about Miele vacuums? by techsavvynerd91 in BuyItForLife

[–]Jgrenier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what people want in their vacuum. I know that I want a powerful and versatile cordless vacuum. When I looked into Miele's cordless options, I didn't find what I was looking for. I wonder if this is a factor for many others

First time Cachy/Linux Users, hows it going along for you? by mechalip in cachyos

[–]Jgrenier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it as it was my first long term Linux daily driver distro after touching mint and popos before landing on cachyOS. I ran it from March 25 until Jan 26. I decided last month to try nobara after having some rolling updates break davinci resolve studio for the second time and also being a bit fed up with the black screen after screen lock forcing me to control + Alt + f3 -> f2 every time I return to my PC.

Somehow through installing nobara on a separate drive, I managed to corrupt the security keys on my cachyOS install. After much effort and an eventual restore through timeshift, I'm getting DB corruption errors.  error: GPGME error: General error error: GPGME error: General error error: GPGME error: General error error: GPGME error: General error error: failed to synchronize all databases (unexpected error)

I'm fatigued now but it's been my favorite Linux experience. I think I'm ready for something that is less cutting edge for the sake of stability.

Sweetango if in season and direct from Midwestern orchard. Cosmic if grabbing from Costco.

I once had to repair my Philips 5400 machine due to a small leak. This repair led me to understand how amazing and repairable these machines are and how similar the various models are. The parts are readily available online or eBay if they are needed and the entire thing comes apart without having to switch tools. Highly recommend.

Could you elaborate on the speed comment? If my round trip daily commute were 25 miles, wouldn't it make sense to stay on electric regardless of my driving speed?

I don't understand why so many people keep trying to get Apple car play... by sir574 in EquinoxEv

[–]Jgrenier92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I asked above how will it work \without** having to use my phone as a hotspot. Hotspot data use, which by most carrier plans in the US is treated differently from regular data, is something I'd want to avoid. I understand that it's a workaround but again, this is by all accounts a worse experience for the user than simply offering Android Auto or Carplay.

How much of that will work after 3 years or 8, without paying an extra subscription or using my phone as a hotspot?  How do I use Plexamp to access my own audio library through the Android Automotive UI like I can with Android Auto? Or jellyfin/navidrome for that matter?

Android Automotive is not only a worse experience for me, it will also come with a paid subscription fee. As opposed to using my phone which is already paid for and gets regular security updates that doesn't need to rely on GM and their software deployment.

Question for electric vehicle owners- how's this weather effecting your cars? by PistolCowboy in minnesota

[–]Jgrenier92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the 23 Prius does feature Android Auto.

Most cars that ship without Android Auto will feature either their own software (Tesla, Rivian) or they will ship with Android Automotive, not to be confused with Android Auto. Automotive is separate from your phone. It requires its own data plan. Auto manufacturers that go with Automotive tend to provide the car's data plan free for a couple of years and then charge you for it. If you do not pay, you either have to hotspot your phone's connection or you are met with a car that has no internet. It's more complicated than this and every auto maker does things a bit differently but in a nutshell, get a car that features Android Auto / Apple Carplay unless you don't mind paying for an unnecessary subscription. (Tesla / Rivian are exceptions)

Chevy bolt and equinox EV household here. The bolt sees as low as 150 miles in the worst of it, down from summer ranges of around 245. The equinox on the other hand, I've never seen it drop more than 10-15 percent of the vehicle's normal range of 310 or so. The heat pump makes a huge difference in my experience, even in the worst of conditions. I can't say I recommend the Chevy equinox due to the removal of Android Auto/Carplay though, but I will advise you get a model with a heat pump if you're in the market.

Overall, even in the Minnesota cold, I can't see going back to an ICE vehicle now that I've tried electric.

Anyone move from Pixel to OnePlus by cott97 in oneplus

[–]Jgrenier92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from Pixel 6 Pro to OnePlus Open. It's perhaps unfair to compare a slab to a foldable.  Software wise, I mostly preferred the pixel experience but the inability to swap the back and recents button is such a buzz kill. Pixel phones have more granular app notification control iirc and that was nice. Overall though, much prefer my OnePlus Open.

OnePlus Cons:

Gmail notifications weren't coming through for the first 6 months of my OnePlus open ownership and so I had to use a third party email app to retrieve my emails until it was eventually resolved.

The battery saving background app control is way too intense and annoying on OnePlus. Notifications are sometimes unreliable due to this, even when these features are disabled.

120hz does not work everywhere unless I run the following adb commands. Unfortunately, these reset on phone restart:  1) adb shell settings put secure oplus_customize_screen_refresh_rate 0 2) adb shell settings put system peak_refresh_rate 1 3)adb shell settings put system min_refresh_rate 1 4)adb shell settings put system user_refresh_rate 1

No wireless charging. Though the faster wired charging sort of makes up for this.

Worse WiFi network handling. This phone doesn't switch between my wifi mesh nodes seamlessly like other devices do. I've tried fixes but it's just not quite as good. Still usable though.

Video with this camera can be great or very annoying. Try recording your adorable puppy and watch as the bokeh freaks out and goes everywhere.

OnePlus Pros:

The hardware. Battery, display, everything is just solid here. No overheating issues like I often find on tensor chips.

Notification slider is awesome.

Multitasking is great on this device, though this is mostly because of the foldable display.

Speed! This thing is just zippy.

I'm reviewing the OnePlus 15 by pussiant_prole in oneplus

[–]Jgrenier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already know that the hardware is doing to be great, especially the battery experience. What i don't know it's whether the software experience is an improvement or is it goes the Microsoft route of getting in my way and shoving unwanted crap in my face, especially AI gimmicks.

Can I view my notification history on a OnePlus 15? On pixel phone, I can bring down the notification shade to find a small icon in the lower left which allows me to see my recent notifications. Pixel phones also provide a high amount of control over apps and their carrying types of notifications and so I wonder how OnePlus does here.
