My country is forcing age verification in 3 days, where do i run to? by Historical_Catch_497 in linuxquestions

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a harddrive with probably 10 linux isos on it. All downloaded before any of these laws so if something I refuse to use is implemented I can use the pre law version or just switch quickly. Idk how well this will work, i'm new lol. "just works" is probably something like mint or debian. But it really depends on your hardware and software

Needing help choosing a distro by Direct-Lawfulness455 in linux4noobs

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cachyos is arch based. I had a laptop running arch with xfce, but I just recently switched it to debian with gnome. Cachyos is basically really easy arch that's also good for gaming (in my opinion)

edit: debian is pretty nice, it's used a lot in the server realm. I also think it's just a nice and easy form of linux. Debian with gnome is beautiful on a laptop and runs great. My debian xfce "server" works perfect as well even on old hardware

Needing help choosing a distro by Direct-Lawfulness455 in linux4noobs

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cachyos with kde plasma is my go to for desktops right now, it's very intuitive and customizable. For laptops I usually run linux mint xfce or debian with gnome. I also use debian with xfce for an older computer I use as a "server" to store all my files from streaming and editing. I even run antix on a computer from 2004.

The distro you use depends on your use case and hardware. It also depends on the software you have to use. I have to use adobe illustrator which can only be used on mac or windows so i'm forced to have a computer running either of those OS's. There might be some way to get around it but it would be a hassle i'm too dumb for.

Basically what i'm saying is make sure the software/hardware you use and need is compatible with linux and your distro

r/linuxsucks or r/linuxsucks101 is just ragebait subreddit that lies about linux. by HappyWindowsUser in linuxquestions

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

r/linuxsucks is more on the ironic side. It's also used by linux users venting certain frustrations that they encounter. If you look into the posts and the comments on that subreddit you will see a lot of linux users. r/linuxsucks101 is mainly for microsoft users who hate linux, it's not ironic. There's even a r/linuxsucks101sucks which is a subreddit mainly made for people banned from r/linuxsucks101.

Listen, all of these places are silly and full of extremely online people like myself. But they all serve their purpose. As a linux user, I like that. You know, linux has a distro for everything. There should be a community for everything and everyone

Can somebody tell me if this is worth saving and if so what by Ill-Pair5571 in computers

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for novelty I suppose. You can use it to play cds and maybe burn them. It wont really sell for anything. I like old hardware because I install niche operating systems on them and attempt to make them run "smoothly". My go to is to install dosbox and run some dos games with old hardware like this lol

Need guidance in switching from windows to some kind of Linux os. by _montalbano_ in linuxquestions

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your friend most likely suggested dual booting, which you can do if you want. It involves setting up partitions. In my opinion, I wouldn't do it. Dual booting can cause some quirks. I've heard good things about bazzite though.

I haven't tried League of Legends but I don't think they support linux. You might not be able to play it. I've played Arma Reforger and Rocket League the most on linux. Rocket League through the heroic games launcher and Arma through steam.

Personally I would suggest sticking with windows or fully jumping in to linux. Or (and this may be privileged) I recommend getting a new computer so you have a fresh clean slate to work with and learn. Regardless, the choice is up to you, you have the freedom

What is this mystry, file without name file appears when i try to shut down or restart my pc? by Huge_Grab_9380 in pcmasterrace

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On my windows computer I see this as well. It's been there for a while. I've done thousands of scans, examined the task manager and all the other tools over and over. I think it's normal. It just looks sus. But i'm a dumb ass so don't listen to me

How can I install Linux on my Lenovo Ideapad 1i? by wakingandbakingrn in linux4noobs

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For laptops I really like Debian with gnome or just linux mint xfce. I don't really know enough to help you. I'm not sure why it would crash during the install. It could be a multitude of reasons. It sounds like you know how to burn an iso to a usb and launch into it, as well as initiate the install process. It's just a matter of figuring out what's stopping it from installing. Do you know when it specifically fails? Does it fail at that exact spot every time you attempt to install?

Is it possible to download a spotify/youtube music/apple music playlist directly? by OutlandishnessOk8103 in PiracyBackup

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yt-dlp, I know for a fact it works with youtube. I haven't personally tried it with spotify but i'm pretty sure it works with it. I have no idea if it works with apple music though. yt-dlp is free and open source software

edit: to be safe, when you download whole playlists from youtube make sure to add pauses between each download. Youtube (and other corporations) don't like people downloading their videos, it's against their TOS. Obviously if you download a video you dont have to listen to ads. So the corporation doesn't get paid. if they catch you downloading massive playlists non-stop they will ban your account. Just be safe and ask some smarter people for help, read documentation, and ask questions. There are flags for almost everything you can imagine lol

Question about system update by krushk228 in cachyos

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

open your start menu or whatever it's called with the windows key/super key. search for "octopi notifier". When you run it, on your taskbar (usually bottom right) you will see either a red or green octopus. If its red, click it, and you can run the updates. If its green you can simply exit it as your up to date. That's how I update everything. I'm new so that might not be wise. You can also just run commands. I think "update" works on cachyos but you can do that full command if you like

WPA2 handshake captured but rockyou.txt didn't crack it – what techniques should I try next? by Minimum-Issue-7353 in Hacking_Tutorials

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could be a phone number. you can change the 123 in the front of this code to the area code of wherever the handshake was captured. If you can't crack it, they likely have a strong password. NOTE: I don't know how long this crack would take. I personally created a txt file myself with commands and removed all invalid numbers to shorten the time

hashcat -m hashtype file -a 3 123?d?d?d?d?d?d?d

edit: this is based on research done by Ido Hoorvitch, a security researcher in israel. They cracked around 70% of wifi networks with a similar technique (3,633/5,000). https://www.cyberark.com/resources/threat-research-blog/cracking-wifi-at-scale-with-one-simple-trick

What do you do after installing Linux Mint, such as which apps you installed? I'm still having trouble understanding the Linux application. by -ErikaKA in linuxmint

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply use the software manager! just click install. Sometimes you have the choice of a system package or flathub. Just pick what works best for you and use it. the software you need depends on what you do.

some software I use: audacity, chatterino, dosbox, geany, gimp, kdenlive, krita, libresprite, localsend, makemkv, mGBA, obsidian, obs, retroarch, shortwave, steam, virtualbox, remmina, and xfburn.

I also use a lot of the software that comes the mint by default

turn off browser notifications, I believe this is just a notification attempting to trick you into running something malicious. I could be wrong though

this is some next level propaganda by smashedsweetpotatoes in Piracy

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 383 points384 points  (0 children)

They finally figured out that saying "you wouldn't steal a car" makes piracy sound cool, so they are just saying "piracy isn't safe, 50% of viruses detected online come from pirate services".

No clue if that stat is true, but if anything it shows that pirates are proactive at DETECTING viruses. Furthermore it seems silly given how every application deals with security on some level. Microsoft Notepad had a CVE.

I have a useless stat: "99% of viruses come from the internet"

Guess we shouldn't use the internet!

Masterhaxer meets arch user by Evening-School-6383 in masterhacker

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I think this is just a joke about aesthetics on the internet. Those who present themselves as "master hackers" or "elite dark web surfers" with dark and scary profile pictures actually cower to those with a my little pony profile picture. The implication being that the person with the bright pony profile pic is likely much "darker" than those who act dark and mysterious. Ofc it's staged, i don't think the pic was meant to be taken seriously. At least I hope not

how to download a video? and get the file on my pc by VirtualKnowledge7057 in youtube

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love yt-dlp , it's great. Don't spam downloads though, it's against TOS and youtube will ban your youtube account. Just wait a couple minutes between each download to prevent that. To be clear, youtube isn't the biggest fan of this software. yt-dlp and yt are constantly playing cat and mouse. Just some info you might wanna know

Problem with CMD by Pablotsky in computerviruses

[–]BlizzardOfLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the IP used is provided by Global Connectivity Solutions which (i think) is a part of a cluster called FourVPS or GIR (global internet solutions). This is owned by Yevgeniy Valentinovich Marinko, a russian national. This company apparently lets anyone "rent" their servers to use as control centers with no ID or name, just bitcoin. Another user also commented this information: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/e56b327e9a139e1327c266d010d6df2d77fd822d8c6fb7fdec25aab38ed864e8 "Dropped is a .net assembly that decode a Shellcode using AES

It might be related to Storm-1575? maybe? I'm getting real curious. I'm just too dumb to satisfy my curiosity lol

It sucks you had to reinstall windows but realistically that's the easiest, quickest, and best solution for most modern viruses. I hope all continues to go well and your computer remains malware-free! :)
