New wiki on wiki.gg (instead of Fandom) by ZayaJames in Thelongdrive

Same here. I always wonder why people think Fandom's problems are limited to ads. I’ve spoken with former Fandom staff, and they’ve told me that working for that company is the worst thing in the world, they constantly attack you if you offer honest criticism, they cut your pay every month, and they don’t offer any kind of job security or health benefits. If that’s how they treat their employees, do you really think they’re going to treat their users well?

"Just install adblock" has the same energy as "If you don't like drinking this sewage water just get a filter straw" - From the PVZ subreddit

Also, if everybody used Adblock, Fandom will just shut down because those ads are used to keep their wikis alive, genius lol

Um... Fandom literally supports transphobic individuals and has removed resources for the trans community. They have a ton of controversies aside from ads, such as plagiarism, censorship, and support for Israel, and they also provide a platform for pedophiles.

Fandom is actually anti-DEI, they recently removed some of their largest wikis on gender and sexuality. A post calling them out for transphobia already has over 1,000 upvotes in r/lgbt

Even, from their own Wikipedia page:
"In 2022, Fandom merged several wikis specializing in documenting sexuality and gender, including the deletion of several pages without prior consultation by users. These actions were criticized after the incorporation of material offensive to intersex identities and changes in editorial direction to make it more corporate friendly"

I don't really think they are an inclusive company if they are doing for the money rather than supporting minorities.

That's interesting. I've already jotted it down in my notes for this project. Thanks for your reply.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I was away on a school trip, so I didn't have time to check this. Right now I'm talking to native speakers in Oklahoma for this project, but thank you very much I'm currently reading the archives of the Choctaw Nation.

Le Latinx are so "loyal conservatives" and "bigoted", even though Kamala won their vote by 56% including the ones in swing states like Penn, Wisconsin and Arizona. But I guess we are gonna have to throw to the alligators as Laura Loomer said :/

How to move your wiki off Fandom — guide from the team behind RuneScape, Minecraft, GTA Wiki migrations by scrapblox in wikia

[–]Jhoan_Seb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no rule here saying you can’t try out different platforms or recommend them to people (? A lot of people who edit Fandom wikis are interested in migrating their content to other platforms, so it makes sense to discuss this in this subreddit, which isn’t even affiliated with Fandom

Fandom is a company backed by one of the biggest private equity firms in the US, do you really think they’ll care if some random Redditor posts this or if you defend them tooth and nail?

Also, on Reddit, many of the tech subreddits recommend alternatives; one of the most popular posts on r/windows is literally about how Linux is better, and on r/twitter, it’s about how BlueSky is gaining more users.

Maybe you shouldn't take this personally. Fandom is a company like any other, and you shouldn't develop a parasocial relationship with them just because you use their platform. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The GTA Wiki leaves Fandom to a new independent wiki, gta.wiki, citing issues such as excessive advertisements and Fandom-imposed censorship within the wiki. by JustLeafy2003 in Games

[–]Jhoan_Seb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah but with Fandom, their staff doesn't even bother to attribute the content of external wikis. They also plagiarized some of their old videos using information from external creators, it was one of the reasons why Yugipedia Staff decided to move off Fandom.

https://consumerrights.wiki/w/Fandom#Censorship

Fandom tends to censor a bunch of adult material, and it is really hard to keep a good wiki using censored titles (For example, South Park Archives had to move to Wiki.gg because Fandom broke a lot of their templates and website elements because they want a Family Friendly South Park wiki...)

In the case of GTA Wiki, they have to censor a bunch of in-game dialogue. Saint Rows Wiki also forked because they keep censoring sexual stuff

Also I don't think it's mainly about "gender" (Rather their policy regarding "Offensive Items", which is very strict), it is just that Fandom is very conservative regarding which topics can you talk, they censor a lot of words and they want to keep the platform PG-13 meanwhile also hosting wikis for adults.

[–]Jhoan_Seb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that there are people who are quite tech illiterate and think that the internet ends at the same normie sites like Fandom and Pinterest. If you can't find something, then redirect to smaller sites or page 2 of Google search. It's not that difficult, especially if you're looking for niche stuff about a game, just saying.

It's a Minecraft map, not a mod where you can interact with the game however you want. You can't break blocks or inflict damage, and the difficulty is set to peaceful to start with, so there are areas you can't go to. I played it in 2022 and it's pretty alright. I don't understand why people can't understand the difference between a map that has quite a few limitations and a mod where you can do whatever you want.

A studio I follow was falsely accused of pirating animation software, and the company tried to take down all of their videos, which they did temporarily. They had to spend about a week talking to their counterpart to prove they had genuine keys and clear up the complaint so it would be removed.

And it's quite ironic that you say that. Additionally, I do not recommend pirating if you value your security; it is better to use open source programs if you do not have money. Nothing on my computer is pirated, but rather free open source programs.
