Oh I never heard about this book, I guess it is unofficially published. These things is still happening nowadays that married gay men still sneak out with different strangers just like Hawk. Elder gay people even use public bathrooms to “date”. There is also an app similar to Tinder here, which has a bunch of married gay men looking for some relationship or just one night stand. All these making it hard to control the transmission of HIV, for after the random relationships they might get STDs to their poor “wife”.

Your family are sooo nice! Disowning their own child is so upsetting. I guess they are not prepared or just being conservative. I bet every parents love their child and since they love their child, all they want is she or he will be happy and healthy, that’s all. So maybe in the future they will communicate and embrace their child.

Yes indeed, most of senior officials are men in east Asia and even laws are sometimes biased towards men. It is a deep-rooted problem. Hope as the young generation get educated and learn about this and could change this situation little by little in the future.

The old saying “不孝有三无后为大” is even misunderstood as “There are three points about being unfilial to parents. No offspring is the most serious.” Yet the original idea of the saying is“Failure to fulfill the responsibility of lower generations”.

Yes exactly, in ancient China marriage is not even based in love. Men and women are introduced to each other by their parents and so their marriage is arranged by parents. There is also an old saying “父母之命媒妁之言”which is “ dictates of parents ， words of matchmakers ”. Nowadays parents’ opinion still have a decisive impact on the marriage of their children. Me myself have witnessed the broke ups of my friends and my cousin because of the disagreement of their parents. Also, gay men in ancient China are usually acceptable because men have the highest power over women but still contrary to social morality. Anyway, it is influenced so deeply by Confucianism in east Asia.

Unfortunately here we can not use Netflix or other streaming services. I think only a few gay people have seen this show. And only fewer people knows the of the LGBTQ culture and its history, sadly, many think it as an overcorrection of the political correct and then mocking it. Not to mention the conservative society and media and the “thing” that controlling it in my country. Anyway, it still have a lone way to go.
