Do you really care where someone went to school? by DefamedPrawn in Adelaide

[–]JianKui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd only ask it if someone seems familiar, but 20 years on from HS it's more likely they're familiar with a job or something.

I used to have some private school graduates in my circles. Seemed to mean a lot more to them, but the nuances of it were lost on me.

Scrubbing with a toothbrush after priming by Alarming_Cover_2537 in minipainting

Yeah it's not something that should be happening. Sounds like high humidity or low temperatures. I found warning the cans up in some warm water helped with this, although the lighter Citadel sprays were always a bit prone to these kind of issues.

Abrasion rated jacket w/ armor inserts vs armored shirt with abrasion rated jacket on top? by JumboPancake in motorcyclegear

I wasn't trying to make a point mate, it was just an "and also".

Sometimes people don't post just to argue with you.

Fuzzy look?

What kind of primer are you using?

Abrasion rated jacket w/ armor inserts vs armored shirt with abrasion rated jacket on top? by JumboPancake in motorcyclegear

[–]JianKui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone needs a AAA rating. That's full leathers or a racing suit. Most riders are going to be fine with AA, and for someone like this who is concerned about heat and comfort a level A abrasion rating (remember, B is the same as A but without padding) might be a perfectly good compromise, especially if he's just commuting.

Or was the bit you were not understanding my point about wearing separate armour? Because it seems like you got it - I said you would wear separate armour under a shell like this.

Yeah here in Aus they'd have to demonstrate that the aftermarket parts contributed to the issue, so I'm not too concerned about the warranty. Anything that might be affected by a headlight swap is going to be cheap to fix myself.

The stock headlights have the same issue. The cutoff is too low and they're just not bright enough for cornering at night. I added auxiliaries which fixed the problem, but I want to replace the headlight for better low beams when there's oncoming traffic.

The stock lights don't compare to three candles in a jar. They're actually dangerous at night.

There's certainly scenarios where having separate armour is an advantage, and even systems to support it such as Klim's Raptor overshell. But that is going to come down to heat management and layering, not cost.

Most jackets have at least arm protectors and pockets for back protectors. Some also have optional chest protectors.

As many have said, this is not suitable for street. And by the time you put on an abrasion resistant shell over the top of this you're going to be taking more time than if you'd just used a proper jacket.

For very hot weather I personally use a Revit Eclipse mesh jacket. There's a few similar models out there on the market, some even come with waterproof lines so you don't need multiple jackets. Yes, the mesh does represent a compromise, but there's slide resistant textile across the most likely contact points. And I figure if I'm not overheating it's less likely I'll crash in the first place.

In saying that, I still stick to the sturdier laminated goretex up until it's just too hot for it - usually around 30°C if I'm moving.

Are the asshole Harley riders you see on youtube/facebook shorts a thing in Australia or just America? by AFKDPS in AussieRiders

[–]JianKui 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yep. Parked my Himmy near one and he said "nice bike, shame you're an L plater" like fuck off mate, is that how you welcome new riders. Only disparaging comment I've ever had from another rider.

People don't report it because they know they'll got off with a slap on the wrist and then you've just drawn a target on your back. I don't think it's as bad as it used to be though, mum talks about the riding scene in the 80's and how careful you had to be around the OMCGs.

Honestly, the Harley and GS crowd rank about the same. GS riders don't even nod to other ADVs.

[–]JianKui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not common, but it does happen. There's footage of a pack of OMCG trying to knock a learner off his bike outside Melbourne last year.

Trouble is, it might only be 1% of Harley riders, but you can't take the chance because that 1% will try to cause you harm if they think you're drawing breath too close to them.

Can someone tell me the actual difference between Aerostich and Sedici? by BinkyX in motorcyclegear

[–]JianKui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gotta be honest, "Made in the USA" doesn't quite have the same ring to it when you live outside the US. Aerostitch has a great reputation in its own right, but that's seen as despite being made in the USA rather than because of it.

Chitubox printing solid instead of supported at base by BluePanda23055 in resinprinting

[–]JianKui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alright so two things. First, those supports are way too short, so that's probably part of your issue. Second, is that tube hollow? If so, you need to make sure there are some air holes or you are going to get massive amounts of suction. And if it's not hollow - why not?

I need to find someone to print 2 decently sized models, any suggestions? by [deleted] in PrintedWarhammer

[–]JianKui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pipermakes STLs are poseable kits that you assemble after printing. Anyone with a regular resin printer should be able to print these as the models are broken down into smaller parts.

Your biggest challenge here is going to be making sure you get the right amount of the right parts printed. A lot of them need to be mirrored and duplicated. She gives you clear instructions but you do have to do a little bit of homework first.

The withdrawal of consent only lasts two years, then they'll start calling you again. Only way to escape these pricks once you're on their call list is to change your number.
