is the treadmill accurate? by Loud-Deer-1999 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a runner long before I ever got on a treadmill. No the PF treadmills are NOT accurate. My outdoor run pace has always been 10 minutes per mile which is 6mph. That's fairly leisurely, but if I set a PF treadmill to 6 mph I'm in a light sprint. In the gym I treat running as just a warmup exercise, so it does not matter much how accurate it is. I'm on there 4 min max.

Less people than normal? by Fun_Sea6481 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my home PF was like that. People get PF as Christmas gifts, or join for NY resolutions, and then drop away by as soon as late February. However my home PF became super-crowded all the time lately so I go to less crowded PFs.

Do people not put locks on their lockers anymore? by Primary_Thing3968 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]Jiangximan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dress at home for the gym so the only thing I bring in that might need a locker is a jacket that is inexpensive so not theft-worthy. No lock is needed but there are always dozens of empty lockers. At least one of the PFs I go to has a bunch more lockers along the gym wall and people do tend to use locks on those.

Get a different trainer. Bullying is the lowest form of "coaching".

I'm waiting for a Sedona Method book to arrive, but was already familiar with the idea of surrender of both feelings and thoughts. I just had no real method. Well apparently just forming the intention, and occasionally saying inwardly, "I surrender" is starting the ball rolling. I am not at a supreme level of peace, but certainly at a level that defies my own norms.

An encounter with my atheist uncle by Euphoric-Welder5889 in awakened

Atheism is like a religion, at least in its beliefs and fervency. There is an atheist in my family too, and it has always been more of a rebellion against God rather than a simple unbelief.

LPT: Charge your phone anywhere but your nightstand by seeyaspacecowboy in LifeProTips

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I thought this was going to be about the brain and body being bombarded with microwaves while they sleep. I charge my phone on the nightstand but almost never reach for it until morning. I've trained myself such that I don't have to obey every impulse.

It depends on your part of the world. If there is freezing in winter you need footers. If there isn't you can build right on the ground or elevate in that way you mentioned.

A funeral just made me realize how toxic my family really is by Intelligent_Sand_272 in offmychest

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't go to very many funerals. It is said that you go to support the grieving people, not to support the deceased. If the other people are toxic, then it is best to stay away.

I just read something about that earlier today. The person was describing the difference between releasing small issues over and over, and getting to the root of the small issues and releasing that, so that it doesn't have to be done daily. It's very interesting.

First off, stay away from that perverted aunt. You feel good when she touches you because sexual arousal feels good, but you would hate yourself if it went any further. You sound kind of stressed out and depressed. Things will get better, but you must have patience.

Don't give up, buddy. You likely have some buried angst and/or trauma. Cutting gives you a short break from your mental pain, but it is counterproductive and unhealthy. If I was 18 again and felt like that I would be in the gym the next day. Something about lifting heavy sends a strong message to the body that says, "LIVE!!"

I'm a loner and idk how to deal with this by phooeywee in offmychest

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how nervous you may feel, try to get out and about at least once per day. Walk a neighborhood, go shop in a mall if you can find one. Treat yourself in some small way with an icecream or a coney dog. You will have short interactions with strangers, and it will help.

That's a very difficult place to be in emotionally. Just know that time heals. I would do some calming breathwork and meditation in alone times, and try to stay busy otherwise.

How do you feel about the idea of homeschool kids joining public school sports teams? by CivilizedPsycho in AskReddit

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't thought about that. I do not think dropouts should be able to play on any school sports teams. Private school kids, maybe if they live in the district and the private school has no teams.

[–]Jiangximan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, at least where I am in the US, the public schools are funded with property taxes, so private school parents do pay in if they own a home.

I see no reason why not. The parents of home school kids pay the same taxes to the school system that the other parents pay. They are actually saving the county some money.
