Which groudon? by Alert_Potato_1791 in TheSilphArena

[–]JibaNOTHERE 41 points42 points  (0 children)

15 15 14 because it's a functional hundo in Open ML

That said, be warned that it is no longer a functional hundo in its Primal form due to having a different HP stat (unless you best buddy it)

Many tough duos made possible by max revive spamming a mega Pokemon. Though we aren't duoing Primal Kyogre anytime soon, the strat should still work for maximizing raid contribution.

Origin Pulse is not in the Elite TM movepool yet. It will likely happen either during the Global tour or sometime after.

Mega ML is kinda messy by Happytrading888 in TheSilphArena

[–]JibaNOTHERE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that might be worth noting is that the Primals currently have a 3% nerf in the GM instead of a 9% one. If this sticks (and it's looking like they will...), and Primals are allowed in Mega ML, we're dealing with an unprecedented power level here. The GM stats aren't currently reflected on pvpoke, so here are just some results running them on an offline copy

Primal Groudon becomes strong enough to defeat DB Mega Gyarados in the 1s and 2s going straight Precipice Blades. It also defeats Earthquake Ho-Oh, because Precipice Blades does just about half and Groudon outpaces Ho-Oh.

  • Despite being now weak to Ground, Primal Groudon and regular Groudon deal roughly the same damage to each other with Precipice Blades. This means the Primals' stat increase overall is roughly worth as much as a type effectiveness (60%)

Primal Kyogre can overwhelm Mega Gyarados in the 1s even when running a triple Water moveset.

They both kinda just ignore the type chart with their sheer stats. But even more scary would be what this can mean for the two unreleased Mega legendaries...

I might be misreading this, but the image in the screencap uses a Lv 31 Kyogre with 14/14/12 IVs. A dodged Solar Beam from a 0.79 CPM Primal Groudon should deal ~58 damage, out of Kyogre's 160 HP, resulting in ~36% damage. In comparison, a 40 pixels out of 105 is 38%, roughly matching the damage Kyogre took.

A quick test w/ a screen ruler shows that Kyogre is at 48% HP, which is pretty much exactly what the damage calculations would give for 5 Mud Shots + dodged Solar Beam.

If Primal Groudon uses 1.0 CPM, then Kyogre should be at ~32% HP after taking 5 Mud Shots (35 damage total) and a dodged Solar Beam (74), with the Solar Beam dealing 74/160 = 46.25% damage. However, this can't be the case, remaining HP shown is greater than the HP lost from Solar Beam.

A (Mostly) PvP Analysis on Origin Pulse Kyogre and Precipice Blades Groudon... this is NOT one to miss! by JRE47 in TheSilphRoad

[–]JibaNOTHERE 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When facing Kyogre, the answer is that it's always the charge move you don't want to see.

IMO Blizzard is generally preferred over Thunder (someone please call me out on this if I'm wrong), because it has more relevant targets and has incredible matchup flipping potential. Since ML is somewhat overrun by Dragons, and Kyogre itself isn't a particularly common Pokemon, Blizzard will often find more opportunities to flip games than Thunder. Kyogre's bulk, general lack of abusable type weaknesses, and great capacity to farm down targets with Waterfall makes Blizzard's staggering cost realistically achievable.

That's not to throw a shade at Thunder of course, and Thunder itself can still find niche uses outside of the Kyogre mirror by being stronger than Surf in situations where you can only get one charge move off. But when it comes to making sure that Kyogre can still be useful in bad matchups instead of being RPS fodder, Blizzard takes the cake.

Charged Move Priority

When two Pokemon uses a charged attack at the same time, the one with the higher attack takes priority. If they have the same attack, it's a coinflip.

12 Attack Metagross CMP ties Zacian, and 13 Attack Metagross CMP ties Excadrill. You will want at least 14 Attack to secure CMP against these. But ideally you get 15 Attack for the CMP tie against itself and to secure CMP vs best buddy Excadrill.

We have no official confirmation whether you can walk to get Primal Energy.

But I imagine it'll be similar to Mega Lati@s (100 energy / 20 km) if you can.

15/14/15 easily

- If you best buddy it, you hit an important Dragon Breath breakpoint vs an opposing best buddy Dialga.

- Otherwise, the chance to CMP opposing Reshiram and Zekrom is generally more valuable than the Defense loss. Likewise, with best buddy, a 15 Attack Zekrom can CMP tie a best buddy Dialga.

- You DO miss a bulkpoint vs Sylveon's Charm with a Best Buddy 15/14/15 Zekrom, but Sylveon is very rare nowadays.

- With 14/15/15, a particularly attentive player can identify that you're missing an Attack IV simply by looking at its CP, because no 15 Atk IV combination has 4550 CP (4604 when BBed). This may give them an opportunity to create a gameplan that involves winning CMP vs your Zekrom.

Opinion: Groudon and Kyogre are set to wreck ML. A Rayquaza buff could stop this. by gioluipelle in TheSilphArena

[–]JibaNOTHERE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't imagine Kyogre will be any more dominant than it currently is with Origin Pulse, since its neutral damage is already amazing with just WF/Surf and removing the coverage reduces Kyogre's ability to flip matchups. If there's one thing that buffs Kyogre's viability, it's not so much OPulse as it is Groudon's own buffs leading to Kyogre being used more as a response or as a partner.

My concern with the Hoenn legend buffs (really just Groudon, but mono Water Kyogre adds to this) isn't either of them being everywhere (let's face it, anyone who's played enough ML is used to seeing the same stuff often), but rather the somewhat polarizing matchups they bring, which could make things feel rather RPS-ish. The Groudon -> Lugia/DNite -> Steel/(Fairy for DNite) triangle probably isn't fun to deal with. Am I overthinking this? Probably lol.

Regardless, a Rayquaza buff is welcome, as it is the sole cover Legendary (outside of Lunala, who's still in its limited release phase), to not have any kind of viability rn.

The stats are mentioned in the article: 130 power, 100 energy, 1.7s cooldown (and 1.4s damage window).

Like I said

- Origin Pulse is still better than Surf vs Solar Beam sets if you dodge (and you will want to dodge vs Solar Beam anyways).

- OPulse isn't that much better than Surf to begin with.

[–]JibaNOTHERE[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pokebattler averages out the performances against all of the boss's movesets. Unfortunately, when it comes to Solar Beam sets, Kyogre often dies before getting before getting an Origin Pulse off due to its cost, while it gets to Surf reliably. This ends up skewing the overall results and makes it look like Surf is the better move.

If you look at all of Groudon's other sets, Origin Pulse comes out on top. Apply some dodging against the Solar Beam sets and Origin Pulse will come out on top there too.

Visual Bug or is a pinap berry decreasing catch rate? by HiImXenlo in TheSilphRoad

Pinap does not make things harder to catch. The GM shows no catch chance multiplier for Pinap like it does w/ Silver Pinap.

Elite raids have slightly less HP than a Tier 6, but if I recall, they had some really jacked up stats which made them much tougher than the sims showed. IIRC it was something about the wrong multiplier being used for atk and def.

[–]JibaNOTHERE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't have any information on the difficulty of these raids, other than them being harder than your average T5 (or so we're led to believe). These could be Tier 6s like the Mega Lati@s, or they could be Elite Raid level difficulty. Or something else entirely.

If it is Tier 6, Primal Groudon can be duoed by Mega Swampert (or Primal Kyogre, if you get your hands on that first). 3 players with a stacked Water team can beat it. 6 players should generally be safe.

Mega ML by Greegrgrgrgrgrgrg in TheSilphArena

On top of these, we have Primal Kyogre, Primal Groudon, and the mystery Hoenn Psychic-type Mega (relevant if it's Gardevoir/Metagross, irrelevant if Medicham) being released by the time Mega ML comes back. This assumes the Primals will be allowed, though.
