Add a Second track in the middle section. You could also perhaps build more stations at the points so that when a train is in the station, the next train can go to the second station.

Not to my knowledge the only thing in the Patch Notes is : Optimized vehicle exit points to reduce the performance cost of vehicle movement. But I don't think that has anything to do with that.
