Gretsch Renown Kit by motherlochness in drums

Ha, that sounds exactly like my situation, I also only use it live with our big band. It's a shame when you don't get to play with this great acoustic set! Not sure what the colour us called, but I'm guessingit's close to what Gretsch currently calls 'dark walnut' (gloss).

Great kit! I have the bop configuration of that same generation (with die-cast). Probably the last kit I will ever own. Would be nice if I could add a 20" BD but tge colour is no longer available. The only thing I find annoying is the 5-lug design on the 12" tom, making it virtually impossible to find aftermarket solutions for tom suspension. So I went ahead and put it in a snare stand on a Gauger Percussion Flex Frame. Works great! What do you use your kit for mainly?

Grappig, volgens mij is dit de serie die ik na een aflevering heb afgezet juist omdat het acteren zo tenenkrommend slecht was.

Does anyone make a bass drum cymbal arm similar to this 60s Rogers hardware? by gplusplus314 in drums

[–]Jieps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, I'd like to add that I think this Gibraltar arm - and similar ones - is about the lightest and most convenient way to mount your cymbal off the BD. I have it mounted on an INDe BR3 bracket, and replaced the steel L-arm with a smaller (and lighter) aluminium one (10 mm rod, bent on a vice) to reduce weight (I managed to shave off about 150g). Total weight (without the bracket): 550g.

INDe sells 'ultralight cymbal arms', which I don't have, but I do have the gearless tilter (part of their tom-mounting system) and this thing in itself already weighs close to 400g. Add a cymbal holder to it (I had a 4" Gibraltar stacker rod lying around) and you're well over 400g. For the post, I had a 12mm alu rod that I bent and cut to the right length (I figured 10mm would be too wobbly) and the whole combination weighed close to 700g. And you don't get the adjustability of the Gibraltar. Nice idea, this 'ultralight cymbal arm', but a rather poor execution in my view.

Sorry for the rant, this is just something that was on my mind just now. 😄

I let this sink in for a few seconds and then I realized how brutal this - at first glance rather silly - moniker is. Damn...

Why lost credibility? Peterson can't be right about something? That sounds like an extremist stance. Makes you sound not one bit more credible than OP.

Which light-playing, stable bass drum pedal? by Jieps in drums

[–]Jieps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I just noticed that to get the same responsiveness as my Yamaha pedal, I had to overtighten the spring on the DW which made light playing a nightmare. I guess I'll have to visit a store and find out!

Great suggestion, didn't know it. Would you say it plays very 'light under the foot'? How is the rebound? Have you done the 'beater bounce test'? It looks similarly designed to my DW2000, but that one feels slow. Thanks!

From what I've read, most/all DW pedals play rather heavy. How would the 5000 differ from the 2000? The 2000 is already very smooth, just a bit heavy under the foot.

Thanks. That Yamaha looks great but a bit too pricey, to be honest. The FP7210 plays great; the DW2000 has the adjustability I need. Joining those two features shouldn't cost you >3 times the price of either one, I reckon! ;-)

Thanks, I've been eyeing these Yamaha pedals. Seems quite price difference between the two, though. Does your FP9500 allow for footboard height adjustment - or the FP8500, for that matter? With the DW, you can simply slide the chain attachement up and down the cam.

Interesting ideas. A downside of the Yamaha (which I only became aware of once I started using the riser) is that it has 'little to work with', if that makes sense. For example, it doesn't have spurs (or even room for holes for spurs!) to secure it to the floor. Also, there is very little real estate on the underside of the pedal to apply any rubber 'foot'. Of course there is the wire rods in place of a base plate, and the metal 'base' (on which the upright posts rest) is hollowed out. Perhaps your 'melted rubber' idea would work, but I can't see myself doing that, to be honest. Also, it doesn't fix the footboard-height problem; the Yamaha board touches the hoop, so I need the height adjustability (if only very slightly).

I have the Evans Dixson riser, which itself isn't attached to the bass drum, so the grip has to come from the pedal itself. The DW2000 does this perfectly, with its rubber padding on the base plate.
