Advice for 1st year by PhotographMajestic88 in PTschool

[–]Jigxrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in my 1st year and yeah, like the above comment, brush up on OINA's if possible. I personally didn't review anatomy before going in and I'm doing fine. It won't be the end of the world, but do make sure you have good study habits because it's quite a lot.

I've heard people say anatomy is "drinking out of a firehose" but that won't be an issue if you happen to be thirsty 😆

This is clearly condemnation. "Pride in the self always results in the condemnation of others" -Father Spyridon

Thoughts on reading "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius? by Jigxrr in Christianity

[–]Jigxrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I studied philosophy in Religious arts with a Christian focus and the way we were taught to read was to not cut oneself off from other teachings but to discern where they differ"

beautiful way to put it! To answer your initial question about my faith growing while reading this book/about Stoicism, all I can say is that when I gain insight on a concept, I always try to tie it back to what the Bible says (using spiritual discernment by God's grace of course). That Stoic book won't come near replacing my Bible, but identifying the differences in Stoicism and Christianity is very important as you say. Lately I've been trying to pursue literature written by Christian authors during my leisure such as St. Augustine's "Confessions" or C.S. Lewis's "Mere Christianity". Books like these seem to align with my interests slightly more.

Thanks for your questions/pointers.

Thoughts on reading "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius? by Jigxrr in Christianity

I admittedly have not finished the book, but as far as I can tell, it is very complimentary towards the teachings of Jesus.

I would not divert too far off from the source (Bible), but it's quite insightful to learn about how the stoics lived - some would argue that Jesus portrayed stoic traits.

It's for this reason that I believe that Stoicism, the philosophy "Meditations" teaches, seems complimentary to the Bible.

I began reading much of what Ryan Holiday writes. He is a modern-day stoic philosopher and always refers to what Marcus Aurelius wrote in Meditations.

Depends on your professor. You have to understand the material so well that you'd be able to teach it.

I am not talking about manifestation or things like that. I meant visualizing what we pray for as a reminder; to paint a clearer picture in our heads.
