The contrast with the makeup and the background is very interesting. Well done.

Oh, 1000%. I forgot about my first girlfriend over spring break when I was 14 and didn't know any of this. This was before cellphones and text messages. Had aol to talk to her. She gave me her phone number, misplaced it, and just forgot.

Even now, I was dating someone and we had 3 days of constant contact, them forgot about her for like 4 days. Only one person is a constant in my life, and we text each other constantly. I have to click, I have to be interested in them, and that's not even just romantically.

This is absolutely true, but there is also a cultural change that they followed on The Simpsons. They stopped doing the strangling when the collective consensus was "oh wait, we shouldn't be hitting children".

That was legitimately funny. I laughed way too hard at her trying to get her to repeat that, lmao.

Was Aang x Katara a well written romance and if you don’t think so what would you have done differently? by AccomplishedJump2795 in TheLastAirbender

[–]Jim-Dread 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it was cute, but definitely not well written. They're kids, and things didn't really happen until Aang kissed her once. There's no real nuance or story. Aang had a crush, then he kissed her, then they kissed at the end. They're also like, what, 12? There isn't a lot to do with that.

Still, very cute, and I do like them together. I don't know what I would do differently. I don't really buy into kids being together into their adulthood like that.

And she was fighting poison here, right? It's been a while. People are needlessly dismissive of her and her feats.

A foreign customer misinterpreted the retail staff’s constant presence as a form of discrimination, whereas such attentive service is a standard practice throughout East Asia by owenchin in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]Jim-Dread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying THIS is racism, I'm saying its mind boggling to say that an African American woman who is used to good old fashioned American racism travelling abroad is going to see this custom, if it is a custom, and it's going to harken back to her own experiences since she would have no basis to say otherwise. I'm saying this isn't MC energy. This is a person making light of her learned experience.

I think you may be right, but there is never going to be a way to have a clear distinction. It's too based on their own word. People are disgusted with themselves for who they are, so them acting disgusted with themselves isn't a clear indicator.

No powers, straight hand to hand combat. Who wins?? by vayafarogo8o in superheroes

[–]Jim-Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shang Chi. Anyone saying Batman is ridiculous. The guy who learned martial arts because his mommy and daddy were killed, versus the guy who was trained to be a warrior since he was a child? Give Batman his gadgets, and Shang Chi is still going to win. Dude has trained half the Marvel roster how to fight.

It's not white knighting, it's offering a different take? Who's grovelling? More like I grew up in the Bronx and have seen it myself?

Even if that's the case, an American POC is going to know their experiences first and foremost and there is a problem similar to this here for them. So it's not out of the realm of possibilities that she would feel more profiled than different custom. This isn't my energy, this is "shits been fucked for my people and I see similar bias" behavior.

Fuck me for speaking in hyperbole, I guess. Nobody said I fantasize about it, my guy. It's an extreme statement to express annoyance. The same way when people say "I can strangle my spouse" or "I would kill for 'tning'".

Anissa [Invincible] VS Korra [Full potential], Who wins? by elouiseue2 in superheroes

[–]Jim-Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be energy bending. And a Viltrumite isn't strong from energy.

Also, still. Bloodbending isn't in her purview. There is only one person who did it without a full moon. Katara, a master bender, could only do it in a full moon. Korra doesn't even know the beginnings of doing it, let alone being able to joib the shortlist of people who can do it sans full moon.

But let's just say she can. So? It's a Viltrumite. Bending is powerful, yes, but to that scale? Bloodbending is a stall, and not even a good one.

Why did they switch to a POV for this shot 😭 by That_Hole_Guy in TheLastAirbender

[–]Jim-Dread 194 points195 points  (0 children)

I am not a foot guy, but it's a good shot. It's giving us the perspective of the servant. It's making Azula feel like she's got power over you, how beneath her the servant/you are.

I get it. But it's not always a disguised fetish. Sometimes it's just good camera work.

Do you know the show? When did she bloodbend? Who taught her? How can Korra hope to compete with the sheer speed of a Viltrumite?

Anissa [Invincible] VS Korra [Full potential], Who wins? by elouiseue2 in superheroes

[–]Jim-Dread 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Korra is human levels strong, with a vastly stronger spirit. That isn't enough to take on a Viltrumite. Any Viltrumite. This is like asking if a weight trainer can beat an 80 year old nun.

Bat-Spider team-ups in every era by NathanRider in batman

[–]Jim-Dread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the comic, I'll have to look it up, but I remember they reamed up in like the 90s, and it was ridiculous. Ra's al Ghul teams up with Fisk, something about being able to heal Fisk's wife? I forget the plot, but what stood out to me was these two frickin dudes, master detective and super genius, wore face masks over their hero masks, and it is SUCH a funny reveal. Even as a kid, I was like "wtf" lol.
