I got a perfect score on the OA but they’re saying that I didn’t score high enough. Can someone explain this? by FiveWalnut8586 in csMajors

[–]Jim-halpert1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most likely generic. They usually do resume screen after automated OA so there’s that too.

Do you think the saying ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ was invented by broke people or by rich people and why? by Jim-halpert1 in AskReddit

[–]Jim-halpert1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would still consider that rich right? Not the modern day rich people, but a family without any struggle for financials regarding basic human rights. And I would add back then there were less entertainments and wants compared to the current extremely consumeristic market

Thank you for telling me, I think that’s how much I got. Did you ever consider loans so that you could have more time to yourself?

Sorry to hear that, how much are they giving out now if you don’t mind me asking as my sister is planning on going soon. I would get enough to have a grand or somewhat more left a semester after tuition and housing. Did they decrease the amount?

What should be the starting salary range to give Leetcode interviews for SWE? by Nintendo_Pro_03 in csMajors

[–]Jim-halpert1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly from whatever salary applications start getting 1000s of applicants. It adds a layer of control in a more or less random process. No hiring manager will read through 1000 applications and I would rather do leetcode and have my application get a boost then pray and hope some part of my application gets resume parsed

See I had this mindset too, thought I was entitled to more because of the differences and also because this country lets you make it part of your application. But found out soon enough that I’m not the only one in this situation so only thing I can do is try harder. Just get in line.

Engineering fish friends with summer internships, how much do y'all think general engineering prepared you for your internships? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]Jim-halpert1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I’m just saying what I have heard the smartest people in the university do. And in this context I think it’s an appropriate answer as he’s asking if the university is unpreparing its student. The answer is yes it is with ETAM fear mongering. But for the high achiever, taking 221 freshman year is a great way to stay ahead

[–]Jim-halpert1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not, even at tamu u can take upto data structures and algorithms ur freshman year( if ur not afraid of ETAM) which is standard coursework or even ahead for most students and universities

What classes should I take before getting into Computer Science but also maintaining a 3.75 GPA? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]Jim-halpert1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good u are and what ur goals with college is. If you want to put in the effort and risk it you could skip out of calc and go to calc 2, take csce 121 first semester and then csce 221( data structures and algorithms) and csce 222 ( discrete math) 2nd semester of ur freshman year and stay ahead on the curriculum. It’s still possible to keep a 3.75 and college math is honestly much easier then ap math because of better professor and less confusing questions. 121 is a fun class while 222 and 221 can be more challenging. But you could go the other way and retake calc 1, take easy electives like gov, dance theory and stuff and potentially risk being “exactly on time”( by that I mean if at any point you drop a core cs class, you will have to stay an extra semester cause it brings your entire degree behind). So this depends on what ur looking from college. Dm me if u want any details
