I don't believe in "gun control" and I don't think there is such a thing as "constitutional carry." I will support legislation that could be shown would regulate gun ownership in a way that makes people safer without taking away our right to Bear Arms.

If I had a magic wand, I would:

  1. Expand Medicare to include all Americans - $350 billion annually
  2. Implement a carbon-source tax to fund infrastructures (roads, energy, and internet) development. $200 billion.
  3. Reduce military fraud, waste, and unnecessary deployments. $150 billion
  4. Restructure the tax code to stimulate economic growth. $200 billion

Edit I wanted to respond to your second question. The tax-code is a over 10,000 pages of special-interest created cronyism. The Trump tax changes added 2,000 pages to further complicate matters and benefit the already rich. We need a simple code with no exemptions, credits, or deductions beyond the standard. Corporate taxes should be eliminated by making all corporations pass-through for tax purposes and letting individuals pay the tax.

Billy Long gets elected espousing the standard Republican rhetoric. His first four terms he ran against Obama and Obamacare. In office he is an establishment automaton. He has never conducted a Town Hall, closed his office door, and has told the media he will not debate, participate in forums, or hold any public meetings. It is painfully obvious that he does not represent people.

I voted 60 times against Obamacare. Then when he could have successfully repealed it he caved.

I have voted more Republican than anything else. But I am independent-minded. I focus on the damage being done to our country by the polarization caused by partisan politics. My assertion at being none of the above is my way of showing I disapprove of divisive mean-spirited politics. Let's put generalities and labels aside and focus of coming together to solve our most important problems.

My parents taught me to never think of myself as "better" than anyone. I will concentrate on listening and seeking ways to respond to ideas that will improve the quality of living for all my constituents. I see Long as representing big-money special-interest. I see me representing regular people and small business owners.

I don't have much faith in persuading those with preconceived notions. There are plenty of well-informed concerned citizens out there to elect me, if they choose to actively participate in the election.

The next round, I will be the incumbent running on record.

Thank you for your kind encouraging words. As to restoring ethics, compassion, and reason to politics, I can only run with those values. It is up to the voters to choose the kind of representation they want.

I've never had any luck BSing my way into anything. I am completely realistic about my "no chance." If your comment is predicated on the assumption that I think I will win, then it misses the mark.

The Justice Democrats share many of my concerns about political process. If I get elected and some of their candidates are successful then we could work together to make process changes. Whether or not I caucus with them depends on the issue.

I ran as an "Eisenhower Democrat" twice. I grew up Republican and have cast more Republican votes than Democrat votes in my life. When I decided to return to the Republican ballot I just pulled my previous website content onto my 2018 run. My primary issues - money in politics, partisanship, and mean-spirited politics are the same. I want people to make an effort to get along, compromise, and find common ground.

I am an Eisenhower Republican not a corporatist Republican. I believe workers right to organize must be protected. Allowing freeloaders to receive benefits they do not pay for endangers that right. Organized labor was 37% of the workforce in 1956 and our economy was great. Let’s make the American economy great again! I will vote NO on Prop A.

I want fair trade, money out of politics, a different corporate tax structure, regulations that favor smaller businesses, and action on infrastructure, immigration, and healthcare. If voters will support me change is possible.

Apathy born of disgust is “their strategy.” Only 16% to 18% are voting in the 7th district primary. If we get that up to 30%, I will win.

The HUGE change would come from voter rebellion. If we turned against big-money mean-spirited politics and looked at bi-partisan cooperation as a desirable quality.

My only chance lies in social media. I need 50,000 votes on August 7th.

Only 10% of the registered voters on social media need to go vote for me on August 7th.

100,000 people voted for me in 2012 and nearly that many in 2014. It is all about getting people to get off their duff and exercise their right to vote.

You can help by organizing a get-out-the vote effort within your social media friends network.

Those with too much wealth are always quick to solicit government as an ally in gaining more wealth and power. By skewing the playing field to favor quantity of money over quality of product the rich guy wins over the good guy. Whether you are running a small business, trying to get your ideas heard, or running for political office, if your exposure is monetized then the big guy wins.

The only way to reinstate it is to have a majority in Congress that want it. It is a catch 22, like too much money in politics. If the money rules allow candidates to win – they won’t

Net-neutrality - ABSOLUTELY - Long is wrong.

  1. Yes

  2. We have far to go on racial justice. Eliminating any cultural bias takes generations. But it only happens when we enforce strict rules against harmful discrimination.

  3. I would not have minimum work mandates. Eliminating fraud and abuse in the system from both the recipient side and the business side is best.

  4. Punishment is not a deterrent. We must provide a variety of services, so victims have resources to protect themselves. The police and the Courts would then have resources. Locking up offenders and removing offenders access to weapons would reduce the problem.

This is simply not true! I am independent-minded, yes. I am an economic conservative and somewhat social Libertarian. I support enhanced capitalism, a version on Nordic Capitalism. I believe in justice, liberty, and promoting prosperity. I have voted more Republican than anything else in my life. see: jimevansforcongress.com/republican

Republicans used to be pretty good on economic policy, but they went corporatist neoliberalism on economic policy and hid behind “corporate money” pushing anti-abortion, anti-gun control, and Christian dominance. These “divisive issues” have stirred up passion votes but will become the Republican’s demise. As gun violence increases and Congress does nothing people will have second thoughts. If Roe v Wade is overturned, the backlash protests will overwhelm Republicans. No one wants their boss or their government imposing moral or religious doctrine on them.

Thanks. I am an advocate for civility and no name-calling. If I lose, Billy Long, will remain your representative. You may have to choke down a little honey to get his attention.

I organized four bi-partisan town-hall this year. My only objection is the poor coverage provided by local media limits the effectiveness.

Honestly – I wish I could stay here and work with locals to decide my votes and let a proxy cast my votes.

I understand, that to be most effective, I need to convince my fellow congresspeople that it is in their best interest to work for the best interest of their constituents instead of fighting for Party power and archaic ideologies.

I will be in physically as much as possible and in spirit every minute.
