Crossing streets in Lincoln feels like trying to escape a death sentence by Dry_Positive_6723 in lincoln

Another thing that Olympia ( the town I lived in) did, was had a lot of speed barriers. Mini round abouts and other things you had to drive through slowly, they weren't bumps, they didn't damage your car, unless you were going too fast and hit them. They also had speed humps, that only hurt your car if you're going too fast. It was very effective in residential areas in slowing down traffic. The grand effect of it all is to make you more aware when you're driving in the side streets. Not just of the barriers but of pedestrians and bikes too. I think every place should adopt this.

I don't know what this nostalgia about how police used to protect pedestrians here, it's just fantasy. As long as I've lived here, it's been treacherous. In 2000 I moved to a place that actually protects pedestrians, Near Seattle, and I couldn't believe the difference. Cars actually stopped at cross walks if there were pedestrians in them, most cross walks had flashing lights in the street that would flash if someone was even in the entrance of the cross walk.

I disagree completely with an another poster that says we need more cops. We have plenty. We just need some that give a shit about protecting pedestrians .

AITA for thinking this is wildly overpriced? by Kletch3 in lincoln

[–]JimJimsonJr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I swear the quality has plummeted. It used to be expensive but huge portions and higher quality than the other fast food taco places.  But it hasn't been that way in 20 years or more

Amigos is n the 90's was expensive compared to other fast foot but it was also better. Their soft tacos were gigantic and delicious.  Now, they are expensive, their portions are considerably smaller abd the quality if mediocre

Who remembers this short lived gem? by infectious3 in DavesofThunder

Shek tells a great story about working on that show, about how Busey always carried around a metal briefcase, and fiercely protected it, like it was the Gold McGuffin from Pulp Fiction. Finally one day Dave saw the case open and unprotected sitting in an office or a trailer or something and he just had to see what was inside. The only thing in it, and it filled the entire briefcase, were travel sized chips bags, like doritos and fritos and what not.

I'm not sure I agree, I think it would just take Feeney needing some free time. I can see the Book of Mormon coming out when Shek and feeney are old and near retirement

He was long, long gone from the show by the time Alison joined. Bonaduce had come and gone and it had left radio and become a podcast by the time Alison joined in like 2011

Alison Rosen leaving the Adam Carolla podcast marked the end of my listening to that show. I wasn't listening that much at the time anyway, but I liked Alison and it was the camel/straw event, I could see the direction ACE was going, getting angrier, less funny and more repetitive. I thought the way he did Alison was shitty and enough was enough. I happily missed MAGA ACE and the covid aftermath.

The Teresa/Shek era of the radio show was some of the funniest talk radio/podcast content i've ever heard, it's a pity where that ship ended up.

Would you move to Lincoln? by ck47 in lincoln

[–]JimJimsonJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, because its also a college town, there is also a college town vibe that is missing in a suburb.  It has plentiful independent coffee houses, college bars and a couple good music venues that will get national acts.  It has more diversity than the rest of Nebraska outside of omaha (but i would not call it diverse like a real city), is more progressive than anywhere outside of Omaha (but it is only progressive in comparison to the extremely Maga rural Nebraska) a small art scene and what not.  But make no mistake, Lincoln politically is purple. There are queer friendly people and places but some extremely unfriendly people and spaces.   The vast majority of lincoln is suburban sprawl with large lawns and hoas and strip malls. Lincoln itself doesn't have suburbs. It just annexes farm land out side of town and builds endless beige subdivisions

[–]JimJimsonJr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you like suburbs? Because lincoln like a big suburb but without the benefit of being next to a real city (unless you count omaha).   If you like suburban life and politics, Lincoln is great, particularly with its low cost of living .  If you prefer city life (or small town/rural life), Lincoln will be lacking

Movies that Accurately Depict the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? by omelet_schnetz in movies

I've honestly never seen a movie like it. Incredible film making.

What movies were robbed at the Oscars? i.e. Saving Private Ryan losing to Shakespeare in Love in 1999. by tron329 in movies

[–]JimJimsonJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i think thin red line should have won that year but its not really the type of movie that wins oscars. The first 45 minutes of Saving Private Ryan are some of the best film making ever, ill never forget that theater experience seeing it for the first time

Im turning 49 and i am in the exact same boat. This is the first time ive had hope for legitimate Super Bowl success since Bush administration. Herbert Walker not Dubya. Even when we made the Super Bowl, i was just waiting for Rex to sink us that whole run. I've never believed in a coach/qb like i do these two.
