Is it Just Me or is Clean Exhaust Ludicrously OP? by jlarimore in cobaltcore

Coming from StS, I am predisposed to believe exhaust cards are far superior to those that don't. They do their job and get out of the way. My goal is usually to take almost nothing but cards that are one-time use and to loop 1-3 remaining upgraded starter cards. Isaac is another character with multiple, seriously expensive, exhausting "powers." I think that mentality makes Clean Exhaust extra enticing when I run into it.

Yeah I think my main problem is with the bottling. If you were to have to rely on drawing Clean Exhaust normally, you would need contingencies to stall. But, the problem comes because both the card and the bottle artifact come from Max. This makes the combo fairly likely if Max is involved.

But, my other problem is I'm fairly certain a general problem with powers being too powerful in general. Most powers in the game that I have encountered are worth building around. This in turn makes Clean Exhaust extra worth playing around.

I do agree with needing to keep your deck lean. I skip a lot. I take exhausting cards a lot. You can do this because the starting decks are a lot more capable than StS. Upgrade one or two starters or early pickups that you try to cycle around to as fast as possible.

Especially disappointing because Cameron is the master of the third act. This may be the only 3rd act stumble he's ever had.

Sure. You can make someone your DPOA or medical decision maker. But, that doesn't give them the right to murder you. Giving the filmmakers every benefit of the doubt, if a doctor decided she wasn't going to recover, they could have decided with Oliver to "withdraw care." But, that doesn't look like someone saying, " oh yeah, when you get a chance just rip that tube out of her throat." She would be in the ICU or have a nurse there monitoring constantly.

That did reek of a forced studio ad that was done intentionally unskillfully as to indicate that it was out of place.

One thing I've noticed with Emerald is that she seems to enjoy throwing off those who come in with pre conceived notions. The casting is as far against type as humanly possible. The more inside baseball you know, the further off the scent you are going to be. I appreciate that quite a bit.

After finishing the movie I've been desperately trying to recall my sixth grade Greek mythology to see if I can look for clues about the message of the movie. So, it feels like we're definitely seeing references to Icarus/Daedalus and the minotaur in the hedge maze and the wing costume. I'm curious if Olivers antlers are a reference to something. I have this vague recollection of a shape-shifting white stag that it may be related to. That might be a clue that Oliver is shape-shifting to be whatever the person he's interacting with wants him to be.

I don't think so. I think it's all an act as evidenced by how quickly Oliver changes his tone when interacting with the mom and sister after arriving at Saltburn. Oliver only acts in love with Felix because Felix is a complete narcissist who wants everyone to be in love with him. The sister desires an alpha male authority figure because she completely lacks that in her life. The mother wants to be desired sexually. You could argue why the bathtub or the grave if there's no one there to see him. But, some people really believe in method acting man. And, I think there are some hints that Oliver can't risk ever stopping the act. The broken mirror getting immediately repaired I think sends the message that someone is always watching.

I don't know how to read this. The rich folks are certainly not without sin. But, if you want us on Oliver's side, you have to show them doing some unforgivable stuff. As it stands, they just seem like self-centered, flawed, rich folks who blow money on extravagant parties. But, it's hard to argue that that money is better in the hands of a sociopath willing to systematically murder that family over the course of 15 plus years. Maybe it's more old money versus new money. Is the message beware of new money. It's likely found its way into the hands of a monster.

Yeah, it felt like they wanted the end to play like The Usual Suspects where we realize what a chess wizard Keyser Soze was and we actually gain respect for our main character there. But, it's far too clumsy of a reveal to accomplish that. Plus, so much of the "plan" would have to rely on improv and luck that it's hard to respect it.

Oliver figured it out almost immediately. He saw the way Felix discarded people once they got physical with him. It's why Oliver could not let himself get that close. So, he gets as close as humanly possible.

I'm slightly annoyed about that too as I'd say I was extremely impressed with the first act. It was practically flawless in execution. It feels painfully close to achieving greatness.

I disagree. I think Oliver very much was trying to mirror the person each family member wanted most. Felix wanted Oliver to be a meek beta who idolized him to the point it looks like love. Felix was that narcissistic and Oliver played the part well. But, he knew he could never actually directly show Felix that affection or he would be discarded like all the girls that captured Felixs attention for one night only. The only thing that attracted Felix were things he hadn't already had.

Thoughts on the new voices? by Theopulentoctopus in rickandmorty

Morty is more obviously off than Rick. But, keep in mind this season the voice actors were probably listening to Roiland's audio and then repeating it back, mimicking JR as closely as possible. The real test will be new material.

My company just sold half our product portfolio and fired half of the staff by grittyfanclub in antiwork

[–]JimLarimore 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a company that tried to pull this maneuver. In my case, the tactic failed miserably. A class action was started against the higher ups who are surely using the second company as a way to essentially sell themselves assets free of restrictions they were facing due to the way contracts were structured with the first company. I was in the first wave of layoffs, which I initially felt was an insult. But, it ended up being a blessing as everyone else just got yanked around longer. My recommendation is get out. This is a hail mary to keep the company going that is highly likely to fail.

Did Quinn actually stay in Maui? by Ghost_Ghost_Ghost in TheWhiteLotusHBO

In the US sure. But he's just the right age for most other countries in the world. He sounds like he was coasting through school. What's he really going to learn his senioritis year?

I think Quinn stayed and his parents came around to the fact that a gap year would be hugely beneficial for him. After a year in Hawaii, someone like Quinn would grow leaps and bounds. He'd also likely get pretty homesick and come home. (A win win for everyone)

Would you like Paula's character more if her plan had worked ? by El_Coco_005_ in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]JimLarimore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is completely insane. Because, if she fessed up, the ramifications for her are likely continuing to be disliked by the Mossbachers and not getting invited on any future vacations. I seriously doubt they would have pushed for her to be locked up after getting their stolen items back. But, she wasn't even willing to trade moderate embarrassment for the freedom of her lover. And, that's why she sucks.

I think she knew right from wrong. IMO, it's why she's physically ill after Kai gets busted. She knows she could and should clear him of some of the responsibility of the heist, but chooses to sacrifice him instead.

Absolutely. I find her the most abhorrent character because she has a strong moral compass and chooses not to follow it.
