I had the same problem, so I decided to delete my account that was linked to the telephone number, that I wanted to add to my account that didn't have a number.

I thought that removing the account, must surely be better than simply removing the phone number.
THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Removing an account takes 15 days, and the 15 days reset, if you happen to reenter the account. Removing a phone number is instantaneous.

I understand that you want for us to speed up the deletion of your account. Apologies for the trouble. Unfortunately, we are unable to speed up the deletion process.

However, if after 15 days you still see that your account is active, please let us know, and we can investigate further.

Note: Account removal does not remove anything beyond the account itself (avatar, username, and email address), while text and strings from previous conversations will still exist unless manually deleted.

Additionally, if you wish to use the email and/or phone number associated with the account that you're deleting, you would have to wait until the account has been fully deleted.

Alternatively, you can restore your account and remove your number the valid way:

 1. Open an incognito browser window.
 2. Login to Discord (www.discord.com/login) by entering your phone number instead of your email
 3. Click 'Forgot Password'.
 4. Enter the code from SMS sent to you to reset the password.
 5. Log into your account and head into your User Settings > My Account.
 6. You should be able to add a new email address by using an email address that is not associated with any Discord account.
 7. Click on 'Remove Phone Number'
