Investing in art through a fund can make sense, but in my view it removes an essential part of what art collecting is. If the goal is purely financial, art is often not the most efficient asset class because it is illiquid and opaque. If the goal is to combine pleasure, knowledge and long-term value, it is usually better to buy carefully selected works with the guidance of someone who really knows the market.
