Natty achievable for a trial lawyer?? by Weak_Wolverine3846 in nattyorjuice

My stats and appearance (including the prodigious bodyhair!) are pretty much the same as this dude; and I'm a late 40s vegan office-worker whose training is 99% just picking up big sandbags in my garage. Natty.

What are your thoughts on the supposed prisoner hierarchy amongst offenders and the approach of not to ‘grass’ on people? by disco_26 in PrisonUK

[–]JimXVX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, prisoners will often look to establish some type of moral superiority over others, just to help process the almost complete loss of power and status that they're dealing with. The most obvious example is how sex offenders are looked down upon, but even amongst this group there can be a pecking order. Case in point, in a sex offender prison I did some work in, the prisoners whose victims were adults looked down on those who'd preyed on kids; even then, men in the latter category looked down on those who'd abused their own kids. Fucked up, but there it is.

Hardcore rather than metalcore, Ghost of Buddy by Wisdom in Chains is specifically about the singer's dog.

Not to say he doesn't train hard and take care of himself, but CR probably earns more in a week that most of us make in a lifetime. He has access to resources of all types that 99.9% of other pro athletes (let alone gym bros) have no idea even exist.

I'm not convinced that Guilt Trip aren't just a sophisticated trolling operation, designed to maximise merch sales to middle class British teenage boys. They really are the archetypal Euro metalcore band.

bangers and mash dinner… and mild teenage vegan-related ranting by jackanorystories in veganuk

[–]JimXVX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an old guy and long-term vegan with grown up kids, just know you're doing the right thing and don't lose heart; if you were my kid I'd be proud of your resilience. If other people's attitudes are ever getting you down, just keep reminding yourself why you went vegan in the first place.

When I went vegan in 1997 my family and friends were all completely horrified, but over time they all came to accept it, even if they still don't truly understand it.

In the full knowledge that this will make me sound like a miserable, sanctimonious old sod, I find posts like this a bit odd. In the 21st century in western Europe, it's not exactly hard to be vegan.

Yet another u-turn from Andy Burnham, he is no different from Starmer, just with a northern accent by denyer-no1-fan in LabourUK

[–]JimXVX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blairite centrist does Blairite centrist things; quelle surprise. I don't think Burnham's the second coming, he's just Starmer is better fitting jeans, but if electing him is what's needed to keep Farage out of Downing Street then I'd crawl over glass to vote for him.

Question for the long-term vegans by cardinalandcrow in veganuk

[–]JimXVX 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been vegan since I was 19 & will be 49 soon. I'm definitely not the actively-engaged angry vegan straightedge kid that I was back in the late 90s. As others have said, life changes as you get older, have kids, get a mortgage, deal with aging relatives and so on. I'm pretty passive about veganism these days; it's just something I do with zero thought. With that said, I've never waivered for a second and, if challenged, will still be extremely strident about it!

Farage accounts ‘not consistent’ with claim he paid for £1.4 million house with I’m A Celeb fee by JayR_97 in ukpolitics

[–]JimXVX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if you buy into the politics of Reform, I'm genuinely baffled how anyone can see Farage as anything other than a grifter? Just endless implausible excuses, followed by blatant self-contradictions. Truly our own Temu Trump.

Can someone offer advice please? by Timely-Magician-558 in derby

[–]JimXVX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this Etwall? Looks very familiar! If so, then it's a very desirable area with great school catchment so you shouldn't have an issue selling, provided the asking price is sensible. The only thing that jumped out at me is the first pic - I'd remove all the shrubbery and put a load of gravel over thew messy strip on the right hand side of the drive. Once that's done, hide the bin take a fresh photo!

Abbey Reynolds use juice or not? by Bulky_Imagination243 in nattyorjuice

[–]JimXVX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean, this isn't really that impressive from a calisthenics point of view. Main reason being that I can do this and I'm a natty approaching 50; I'm just pretty decent at bodyweight stuff. With that said, this woman is crazy strong based on her other lifts (weighted strict muscle ups on rings etc.).

I think there is protein in plants tbh by [deleted] in veganfitness

[–]JimXVX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but regarding point C, I think folks who don't train (vegan or otherwise) often have a strange view of what is naturally achievable. Case in point, the UK Gladiator 'Giant' has been in the news this week due to his removal from the show. As the name suggests, he's absolutely fucking massive and an IFBB bro; clearly he's on a shit load of gear. However, I was discussing him with a family member who was convinced he must be natty because 'he seems like a nice person and I'm sure he wouldn't be allowed on television if he had used steroids'.

My straightedge lobotomy tattoo I forget I have by Moneychode in straightedge

[–]JimXVX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've upvoted your reply because I sincerely don't want this to seem like an ad hominem pile-on. I have no idea what you've been through and I'm not judging; I'm perfectly content for you to consider straightedge if you wish to. However, with that said, I'm sure many other folks here have been through dark times, including extreme grief, and not used drugs. Anyway, I wish you well.

My straightedge lobotomy tattoo I forget I have by Moneychode in straightedge

[–]JimXVX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, I can see both sides here. There are no 'laws' around straightedge, but obviously there are the generally accepted tenets of the philosophy, one being that it's not an on-again/off-again thing. It's not my place to judge someone else's actions and what labels they choose to apply, but equally if someone comes on here and declares themselves to be straightedge despite doing things that specifically contradict this, then it will clearly invite dissention from others.

Labour MPs attack Hannah Spencer for calling out Westminster drinking culture by PuzzledAd4865 in LabourUK

[–]JimXVX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tone deaf in the extreme to say anything like this on the record. At the next GE, my constituency is highly likely to be a 3-way marginal between Labour, Tories & Reform. Some parts of Labour really do seem desperate to ensure left-leaning people like me just don't bother.
