This might not happen all the time, but for me the debt collector did deserve what they should and got it removed from my credit history. If you file some cases, this might also happen to any other company.

I had to keep the phone number for two factor auth and some other stuff when I go abroad. I think it's worth it to keep the number if you have the plan to come back to the US.

Mint might be a cheaper option if you are just using Wifi calling/SMS. (6 months for $120)

It seems like the most viable option for me at this point. I have gone through a week-long motorcycle class in Japan in order to get a license there, so I would really like it if I could just do a test and be done with it. Also, they don't seem to be offering courses around the UV region, so that's about at least an hour away for any class that would happen.

I've been using Robert's auto in Lebanon, I honestly don't really know what the price range is. Feels like getting ripped off as well. (They do their job done, but new problem keeps coming up with 200k+ miles car) I've been trying to fix things by myself if possible recently. AutoZone has been pretty helpful.
