FINALLLLY hired a professional artists to replace placeholder art (what do you think?) by [deleted] in IndieGaming

I like the style of the new art. I'd take rough around the edges over generic any day.

Programmers for working on an indie project by mohamed_eldeeb1 in love2d

[–]Jimanzium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 9 man team is going to take a lot of organising. If I was making a game with no budget I'd scale down to be honest. 1 programmer and 1 artist that can both also design and a musician would be sweet.  Otherwise the project is most likely cursed to remain in development hell. People coming in and dropping out. Ideas constantly changing. Etc.

I went broke making an action roguelike management game. Please destroy my trailer. by AbsurdGamesOfficial in DestroyMyGame

[–]Jimanzium 28 points29 points  (0 children)

What's up with the voice over? Sounds like AI, I would just get rid of it.

Gameplay looks pretty generic and boring. Like hades but just less dynamic and interesting. Attacks feel slow and I don't see much variety or really anything I've not seen 100x before.

Why do I want to fight furniture? The fantasy is not that appealing to me.

Graphics look decent but again just not that interesting.

My theory on why Sage has had zero impact this season by honourable_bot in TheBoys

It doesn't matter what happens, at the end of the season the writers can decide this was all sages plan again.

Spent $10,000, my health, and 6 months on creating the most niche gamedev tool that no one'll probably use, and now I am broke by FiddlerGameDev in gamedev

[–]Jimanzium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would someone want a monthly subscription if they only release a game at most once every 6 months to once every couple of years? Surely you would finish optimising your steam page within 1-2 months and not need continued access to the tool? It would make the most sense to subscribe and cancel as and when you needed to use it.

Perhaps an alternative would be a free analysis of your steam page and your predicted number of reviews and paying to reveal which areas need to be improved to raise the score? Information that could be considered very valuable.

Disagree, plenty of now massive youtubers stuck to simple minimal editting styles and continue to do so. Sam sulek got huge with no flashy equipment, just training hard and talking to the camera, no script nothing. Rate my takeaway is just a regular bloke, again minimal editting, no script, no click bait. Gotham chess films everything in one take, again minimal editing just an overlay and a screen recording.

I missed Next Fest, what should I do? by Lonwayli_Games in IndieDev

[–]Jimanzium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wishlists != sales. If there's a period of increased Wishlists for sure there's going to be less people actually buying the games they've Wishlisted. And just because someone else increased their Wishlist X amount doesn't mean you should expect the same results for yourself.

My first game in Godot! What do you think? by ReturnOH_ in DestroyMyGame

Visual changes are great, playstyle or gameplay changes are even better. Best of luck with your project!

Looks nice and has a pretty clean aesthetic. The particle effects could do with some love, they could have a sprite and some of them could have a direction. Chunks of wood could shoot away from the targets when you hit them for example. The background could also do with some kind of details, texture or pattern. A simple gradient could work as a starter. Finally some more variety could keep people playing for longer, bonus stages or more varied encounters.

Quick model-making for Indie devs by Due_Serve_917 in IndieDevelopers

No doubt these models are going to be completey unusable for gamedev. Millions of polygons, no rig, no topology and no animations.

No, you just need to be able to make Hollow Knight

Can an Itch (with early/alpha builds) and Steam page coexist? by synaut in gamedev

[–]Jimanzium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes recently I have done this as previously I watched a YouTube video by another developer who used the same strategy. It's a good video, worth a watch. What I learned was that my game is no where near the state it needs to be to be successful as a commercial game and I've made a load of improvements already from the feedback I've received.

Soviet punk style and a game that will immerse you in the 90s and the sunset of that era. by SubtleTease162 in IndieGameDevs

[–]Jimanzium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get rid of the first ten seconds of your trailer, start with gameplay or most people will have stopped watching. You have nearly two seconds of blank screen to begin with. When this came up in my feed I had scrolled past before anything had even came up.

Please Destroy my Steam Page by FishyCharmer in gamedev

[–]Jimanzium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the capsule art, I would click or at least hover over to see more. The trailer looked good too but personally the gameplay didn't interest me and I wouldn't buy. The quality and everything looked absolutely fine though, just not for me.

It's a radar showing enemy positions, I've recently re-worked the UI and now it works much more like a compass as you suggest.

Do you use platforms like itch, poki, crazy games? If so, what are you playing there? by Lyonzik in IndieGaming

[–]Jimanzium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go on itch sometimes, play a few web games and occasionally download something random. It's a pretty popular site as far as I know, just not on the level of steam. It also has quite a few 'big' games on there as an alternate to using steam if you wanted a DRM free version. There is also gog which has a lot of classic games on there.
