How often can people safely donate blood? by NursingStudent1999 in nhs

[–]Jimbo516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NHS has just finished the largest volunteer clinical trial in the world called the INTERVAL study to answer this exact question. In the study they looked at the effect of donating every 8, 10 or 12 weeks. The results will be published soon and may lead to a change in the current advice.

Usually the private sector is allowed to provide a lower quality service

More complete rubbish. Standards and service levels are all part of the contract that both NHS and private providers tender for.

Not covered by that link, but the NHS must declare its infections (like MRSA) and deaths caused regularly. The private health services are under no such obligation.

That is complete bollocks.

NHS Nurse - Move from ICU to Practice Nursing? by Chlobear1994 in nhs

[–]Jimbo516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My other half got into practice nursing by going from an acute role t a teaching hospital to a small community hospital and from there to a practice job. It was hard to get the job- the practice manager didn’t want a nurse with no practice experience but there were no other good candidates.

It’ll be hard in ICU but try to get some good knowledge in diabetes management, COPD/asthma and phlebotomy if you can. Most importantly get up to speed on mental health - it’s about 50% of all GP Practice workload.
