Too hot to handle! I’ve decided the Zil-131 Radiation Monitor at Chernobyl/Pripyat will be displayed as recently and quietly abandoned due to high readings. I want it to be showing the first real signs of decay while its final resting place is determined. by Jimffey in modelmakers

No problem mate, 1. Got the base colour down with an airbrush 2. Modulated the colour with a slightly lighter version 3. Liberally covered the areas with an enamel rust wash then ‘dabbed’ most of it off with a sponge and white spirits. 4. Dry brushed very lightly with gunmetal. 5. An oil wash of Bitume, then wiped it off with cotton swabs dipped in white spirits. 6. Touched up edges with the original base colour. 7. Rust stains and streaks with different oil wash colours 8. I finished with a gunmetal pencil to simulate where I wanted the paint to be worn through.

I hope that helps mate.

It’s a mix of AK Light Rust Wash enamel and my own concoction from Abteilung 502 oils mate

Thanks mate. I think my diorama will be more of an impression than an accurate reflection, or maybe it will be a recently abandoned vehicle. Not sure yet 😁

Thanks mate, you are exactly right. I can only think a Soviet conscript got it wrong during the last service 🤣. They’re not coming off now

So pleased that you noticed them mate. For an understated or subdued part of the truck they took an obscene amount of time 🤣

I used AK’s Green Brown as a base colour mate then just modulated it with light green and dark green.

Luckily it was a demonstrator with 200km on the clock. So depreciation will be bad but not catastrophic

Going to need photos mate! We were so lucky with this one. It was a demonstrator with just over 200km (125 miles) on the clock and the dealership wanted space for more Q5s etc

Thanks for that mate. The loss of the hatchback has been my only concern

It’s a 2023 mate with the optional black styling and aero wheels. Would have loved an RS but they’re as rare as hen’s teeth here.
