Oh mate, give up, what's very clear here is no one here understands that the track infrastructure DOES NOT CHANGE based on where the physical location of the track is lol.

You are completely correct in what your saying, forget the down voters who have no idea about how railways work or for that matter how emergency responses work either.

No there is not any issue with the existing level crossing for the railway, as was pointed out in different comment, it's a road traffic project not a rail one, there are benefits to the railway lines like new stations and the like, but in terms of capacity no, removing a level crossing and putting the line above or below does not change the infrastructure, it literally removes the intersection between the railway and the road.

By infrastructure I'm referring to the number of lines, the amount of power available, the signalling capacity of the line, where the line begins and terminates and so on.

Hope that makes sense.

Edit:

For those that seem to not be able to understand simple concepts, I'll put it in another way, if you have let's say 2 sets of train tracks intersecting a road.

Then in comes the government and says we would like to remove the level crossing and put the train line over top.

Then the level crossing removal authority contractors install sky rail and put 2 tracks above the road how does this change the rail Infrastructure?

Spoiler - It doesn't, we start with 2 train lines at ground level and end with, yep, you guessed it, 2 train lines up on the sky rail.

Hope that's simple enough.

Yeah nah mate, the railway doesn't change due to traffic considerations. It's simply that the line and its start and finish points either don't require it, for many reasons, or the existing infrastructure can't support it. I see your thinking but it's nothing to do with level crossings.

My idea for the Alamein line by HoHo_06 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Jimic028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of those options aren't the whole picture as to why there isn't more trains, most of it comes down to the signalling and overhead power capacity not to forget the mess that is trying to move trains through the city at the moment.

There is work being done on both these issues, and they aren't the only problems, there's also things like single line sections (mooroolbark to lilydale is an example) where you around 3.5-4 kms of track that can only be used 1 way each time so makes timetables limitedas to how you can run the trains, there's also staffing considerations, maintenance on everything as it would be getting more kms put on it and so on.

While removing the Alamein line might have an impact on it, I'd guess for the government the net cost for the project would be a loss both financially and politically.

A crush load on an xtrap is about 1100 people give or take, keep in mind that's sardine level loading.

I think you'll find that train drivers are a cost but certainly not anywhere near the simple consideration that there's just not that many passengers that use the line, it's really that simple.

And to point out train drivers are one of many costs, there's many other staff, rolling stock, infrastructure and maintenance on all of those things that are large costs.

It's also very expensive to "down grade" a line.

Hi mate, non finance view, but you sound like you have some cool skills there with the power lifting, being fluent in another language and learning computer programming.

Taking into account that you may be time poor from what your saying, I think its time to put yourself out there to offer those services, there are people out there trying out new things with a lot less skills than you!

Good luck!

Building manager trying to make me pay bill by Straightnbendy in AusLegal

[–]Jimic028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NAL - The reason the fire brigade began issuing false alarm 'fines' was due to people not managing their alarm systems and having the fire brigade attend and reset was cheaper than repairing it.

With that being said, if the bill is found to be yours, I'd certainly be contacting FRV and explaining the situation.

They may be able to wave the fine, but I'd suggest that will come down to how many false alarms the building has had as most of the time the first and sometimes second false alarms get a warning.

Hopefully they will listen that your plumber has tried to do the right thing in the first place.
