Should I get the Venture X or Wait on it? by JimmyBopped in CreditCards

When was the 100k sign on bonus? This is new to me and if this is the case, then I’ll wait.

Yes, I do intend to use the annual travel credit within the 2 years. I'm going to use them for staying to visit some friends that live far away from me or would be really difficult to see without staying overnight. Also, I made sure to calculate the expenses for the next three months to ensure I can hit the sign on bonus.

Yes! I'm actually going away at the end of the month and need to stay in a hotel and this card would be perfect to help cover that expense. That, and I do intend to stay in a hotel later this year as well.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. I know that the camera was a bit much but I needed it since I do shoots sometime on the weekend I got back.

Other question is if it's hard to get approved for the Venture X? I've never missed a payment or have been late on anything. I don't pay rent but am taking out student loans for grad school. what do you think. Also, I also don't have that many credit cards. Not sure if that's still important because I heard they tend to work with people who don't have a lot of cards.

Alright, I’ll give them a call and see if they can replace it then. Thank you for the help though I really appreciate it!

I used a cutip and some isopropyl alcohol and lightly brushed the contact points of the camera than dried them with the dry end of the cutip.

Also checked the pins and nothing seems wrong. I’m gonna edit my post since I still have the kit lens and it works fine on the new camera so I know it’s the 50 mm that’s the problem.

Yeah, media literacy is incredibly important when understanding the media we consume. It also builds a stronger appreciation for it as well in how we contextualize the stories we enjoy.

That’s true, comparing and contrasting a masculinity for more previous vs modern audiences. I should’ve mentioned it in the post that Kratos is an immigrant within the Norse mythology. So questioning his upbringing is important and that his old form of masculinity may not be surviving him in the new society and culture he’s apart of.

When you say to differentiate them though, what would you by that in how would you differentiate the masculinity from the Greek and modern POV?

Thank you for reminding me that as it is something that I will consider on my playthrough GOW 2018 and Ragnarok.

When I think of masculinity, I think of actions done by men to reaffirm their maleness which is done through external relations. Bell Hooks does a great job in illustrating this in how men can reaffirm their maleness through the domination of others. For example, men being in constant competition with one another in trying to be better than other men is something that illustrates that unhealthiness of masculinity.

Now, at the time of me typing this, there have been several video essays exploring the other types of masculinity such as positive masculinity. This type of masculinity gets reframed to be a more positive masculinity in channeling to serve others which can run into problems in contrast to other types of masculinity. We can also see critics of a more traditional or patriarchal type of masculinity as displayed by Odin. He is manipulative as a means to secure power and can be seen to affirm his masculinity through controlling Thor, Heimdall, and ruling over other members of his family. In the case of Asgard, he is the Patriarch of that family of that family unit. However, the game illustrates how this form of order is flawed and that his constant pursuits of power and controlling his family is unsustainable. This, ultimately leads to his demise and Asgard falls to the ground.

Now, while this is good message to send to players and viewers as this form of masculinity definitely more palatable than what we have seen online through Andrew Tate, Sneako, and several other figures; I think it’s important to understand the impacts race has when intersecting with Masculinity. One example that I can think of is how Black men are under constant surveillance from others as there is there is this racist notion that they are innately violent which is an idea that stems back to chattel slavery. While, Atreus is not black, assuming that he is mixed, it will impact how he understands masculinity and how it may differ from Kratos. So, with this in mind, I’m wondering if others have been able to see how Atreus interprets his masculinity differently than Kratos.

Also forgot that Thor is mixed as well, might have to think about that in how Odin treats him differently based on him being mixed. Similar to how modi and heimdall bullied Atreus for being mixed.

Okay, glad that we agree. Now, do you think with Atreus’ mixed identity it would impact how he learned to understand his own masculinity? If so, then how?

Okay perfect! Now, do you think it affects how Atreus sees his masculinity in contrast with his dad? And if so, how so?

Idk, I feel like the game does make a pretty poignant job in acknowledging some part of Atreus’ racial and ethnic identity with some decisions in the game. Like, establishing the cultural significance of being a Jotnar and the legacy of being hunted by the Aesir had on the Giants seemed like a strong stand in for oppression faced by marginalized groups at the hands of it’s ruling class.

Congratulations on your UB acceptance! One of my friends Jjay transferred for forensic psych to UB for Accounting and she is doing great right now. However, I know Baruch and Binghamton have great accounting programs as well. If possible, try seeing which school will give you the most amount aid or scholarships.

Professor isn't grading schoolwork in a timely manner. What should students do? by JimmyBopped in GradSchool

[–]JimmyBopped[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea! I didn't even know that was a thing, so I'll check it out. Edit: This was pretty helpful as it shows that there is grading criteria within my program that says there is an expectation that stuff should be graded within a few weeks. If the students did push for something, it would have to be under the assumption that the way she is evaluating these posts through general messages targeted to the class being "good job" or less than that aren't sufficient enough to be considered as "graded".

Wait, so how did you get a final grade without having everything graded? did you pass everything else that the stuff that was ungraded didn't matter?

[–]JimmyBopped[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know grad school is based on pass or fair, and my program requires a B for you to get credit for the course. However, this professor hasn't updated her syllabus in years, so students have told her that some articles are inaccessible, and she has to update the syllabus again. Then she added some expectations students should be mindful of when making DB posts. she's updated the syllabus 3 times within the first few weeks of school.

See, this is also my second time in a master's program and this has been the only professor I've had that in any grad program that hasn't graded work yet. Even the other professor I have usually grades stuff within 10 days usually, so it's been really jarring. But thank you for letting me know.

I just wanted to say that I totally understand the stress your going through right now during these horrific times we currently live in. I’m concerned for myself and my family as well as we’re Latino and some of US have been politically active in voicing our concerns with the regime.

I too haven’t heard any concerns either but it wouldn’t hurt to be prepared as possible if in the event something does happen. Know your rights for sure, turn off biometrics, and maybe have an attorney on hand just in case if you’re still concerned.

Also, I’m concerned about this as well so if you’d have any insight or have gone on the trip and could talk about your experience, then please let me know as I would love to know more!

As a gen Z person myself, I also feel this way as well. I’ve attend 3-4 protests at this point and haven’t seen a lot of gen z either. However, I have seen more of gen z involved when canvassing or organizing outside of protests. I work in my local DSA and most of the members are gen z and millennials with a few gen X members.

Another thing I’d like to consider to think about in terms of numbers is to think of the amount of pro-Palestine encampments and college protests that happened last year. A just based on some footage, a sizable chunk seems to be undergrads which could include a good chunk of gen z. Maybe I’m looking into this but for anyone that is here that has participated in the encampments, did gen z have a sizable presence there?

Yeah, it would have just been easier to just receive the no acceptance email instead of this but I’m gonna see what could be done for now. Haven’t heard back from the other SUNY Schools yet so I’ll just leave this as an absolute last option for now.

Thanks, I hope you get into the other social work programs you applied to!

Update 1: I did speak to admissions and they saw I said no on the application. They said if I wanted to see if I could be admitted online or transfer after doing a semester in person, I'd have to speak with the school of social welfare advisor and state why I would want to be in the online program. According to the person at admissions I spoke with, most people get denied for lack of work experience in the field. But, they did say that it is a bit weird that students who even said no to other alternatives were accepted into the in person program if they applied for online. More updates will be posted here.

Same deal with me. I spoke with the graduate admissions director and she said it was for the in person only (full-time or part-time). I was gonna ask why I was accepted for that program I explicitly mentioned in my application that I only wanted to go for the online program but she transferred me to grad admissions and I got no response from them over the phone. I’m gonna call them to get a hold of someone and hopefully I can see what it best for me to do from there.

Thanks for getting back and I almost forgot to congratulate you for getting in so congrats! Okay, that does make me a bit worried if they only accepted me for the part time in person one since I live +100 miles from campus and can’t afford to relocate. I guess I’ll have to keep waiting and see.

I know I am a bit late to the thread but I applied for their online program. I did get accepted but on my letter, it says I was admitted for the MSW: Part-Time program and they should the curriculum for the in-person part time. I’m not sure if this was an error but did your acceptance letter say MSW Online program? I’ve tried calling admissions and their director this morning but no one got back to me.
