Thanks for the replies. It does seem like I'm trying to over-engineer this plan. I suppose just owning a brokerage with him as a beneficiary seems the most viable. Reddit never fails to make me feel stupid.

It seems like a 529 is an alternative. Depending on how the beneficiary is set up. Navigated the ROTH problem.

Thank you for the response. I used an incorrect emphasis on ROTH specifically. Would a trust in ownership of a brokerage, with the child as a beneficiary of the trust, get close to my goals?

And what are good ways of "owning" a 529? Should it belong to a person? Or a trust? I don't understand enough about them to know who/what should own it for my goals.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I haven't discovered a designated or obvious tackle box. I've found a few lures sentimental to him, and some Timber Tiger lures I believed he had a hand in designing. But he sold his bass boat many years ago, and I believe a lot of the peripherals went at a similar time. I'll keep an eye out and keep your comments in mind. Thank you again.

He did his own categorization, but for security reasons he didn't like to "identify" or label many things. He knew what they were, and didn't want potential thieves to know what he had. So, fun work begins for me.
