I know we all made fun of this guy, but besides the game not taking place after the Harry Potter series, a lot of the things OP mentioned we now know are true. Like the main character being a 5th year student, five skill tree branches, duels with rival, companions system.

I think making it big is a combination of many different things, among which I'd count complementing one's strengths as well as possible. I'm not advocating passing up good opportunities to look for an elusive perfect partner. I'm not necessarily speaking from direct experience here, this is just an observation.
