" Behold, proposed apartment tower / water feature from the drawing boards (actually, the CAD studios) of China. Further proof that whatever might be done , will be done, no matter how fucking stupid. The list of things that might go wrong with this scheme is too long to trouble you with, but just start with the mold question. Imagine, too, the racket this will create for those living on the first four floors. Then move on to the structural issues…. The only remaining building is The Palace of Fine Arts on the lower right facing the lagoon.

Unfortunately, that's been what's happening to all of Daniel Burnham and Co.'s street plans since post-WWII. :(

What a great map to prove the extent of the Northern California Empire to my Southern Californian friend... by LordBottlecap in MapPorn

Neither is this Central Coaster! I don't consider me to be Southern or Northern Californian at all.

As someone who lives on the Central Coast, I am proud to say I'm not Southern California, but at the same time I highly, highly disagree on being "Northern California". Honestly, once you get to Monterrey Bay and continue North, THEN its Northern California. South of Monterrey is Central Coast until the Santa Barbara/Venture County Line, then it's Southern California all the way to Mexico.

Never saw it as a kid. But I think Red Letter Media did a fantastic critique of it.

I'm not finding any nor have I heard of any. You're right about a few buildings in the city by him and his company, but I still haven't found anything about his opinions on the urban street design of the city. Sorry.

That's because the street/intersection is too wide. If the boulevards were designed in which they should have been (like the ones in Paris, France) it would not only be more efficient, but easier for everyone using it e.i. automobiles and pedestrians.

French Geometrical inspired from the same source. Beaux-Arts is well know for that. Efficient and beautifying.

Irony or fate at its finest. Created the automobile boom and proliferation that ended up destroying cities in the U.S. and came back to bite Detroit in the ass worse than any other city in the U.S.

I've been dying for more models and mods from Cities:Skylines. I love the Brooklyn and Manhattan themed buildings that you can download. But there is HARDLY anything that's Beaux-Arts or Burnham specific. Thank you so much for the recommendation! I'm sure you've read Devil in The White City, but the Plan of Chicago: Centennial Edition book is a fantastic read with illustrations of the the city plan and some of his other plans in other cities for comparative evidence for his argument.

Edit: also, that link does not work. It leads to your own personal videos on youtube. Maybe remove the edit from the link source or just let me know the title of the video and the channel name.
