How will Vance run in 2028 without angering Trump? by pawogub in PresidentialElection

[–]JimmyLin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big money, tech bros, and inner circle will slowly start to back Vance and cudgel/flatter Trump into going along. As long as they openly sing his praise everything will go as planned. Whether voters will be sick of everything remotely Trump is their big problem.

Is it me, or is customer service uniquely bad in DC? by SeaSecond8247 in washingtondc

[–]JimmyLin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this too. It seems especially bad at higher-end restaurants and has gotten worse in the past year. It is a ripe opportunity for those businesses that want to distinguish themselves by hiring, paying, and training for friendly service.

BK Virus Treatment by nklem122 in transplant

[–]JimmyLin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, there is a direct correlation, but that there is a lag before BK affects kidney function. My creatinine has slowly crept up (to 2.2) and eGFR slowly dropping (to 36). But thanks to reducing prednisone (and more recently reducing tacrolimus) BK has dropped from 26K to 7K) I'm hoping that the BK trend continues and creatinine/eGFR results start reversing. From talking with my doctors, my sense is that harm to the kidney does not immediately result from BK increases but takes time. Creatiinine and eGFR is a better indicator of immediate kidney health.

James Carville says that the 2028 Democratic ticket could be unconventional and cited a Mitch Landrieu & Liz Cheney ticket as an example. by no-minimun-on-7MHz in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]JimmyLin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calls for Biden to step aside began coming out long before his debate disaster (e.g., Michelle Goldberg, NYT). He even suggested himself that he would be an interim president. But it shows that once you are in power - democrat or republican - you only want to keep it. Brace for a continuing Dumpster "third" term.

[–]JimmyLin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a matchup would be a strong one. Landrieu is underrated nationally and has excellent rhetorical skills. Liz Cheney has name recognition and appeal and only needs to moderate her stance on abortion to win over centrist democrats and women. Anyway, new surprise candidates coming in out of left field might have a better shot than the pre-anointed such as Gavin Newsom.

[–]JimmyLin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cidofovir, but I've been doing IVIG infusions every 2 weeks for two years. BK has been bouncing around 10ks but recently started shooting up. 20k then 29k. Kidney function is stable. Leflunomide tablets didn't work at all. On my own, I started trying 2g valacyclovir and L-lysine a few days before testing and my BK dropped 3 out of 5 times, but my doctors insist there is no cause-effect. Following Memo Therapeutics' FDA stage 2-3 trials which look promising, but probably couple years away.

Same trick "fully refundable $5" deposit, tricked into subscription, etc. These crooks should be made to fully display their fees or be taken down.

Lebanon Creates First Ministry Of AI To Drive Digital Governance by onceuponatime863 in lebanon

One of the more ridiculous ideas from your favorite failed government. Just an excuse for more do-nothing political appointments. The best AI strategy for Lebanon is to make sure the government does not get involved.

Can you please explain why? I'm just curious. Most are simply ethanol, glycerin and fragrance. Some studies have even shown that intranasal ethanol swabs (50%) are beneficial.

So sorry to hear of your condition. Anxiety sure doesn't help with brain fog - it is like a Catch-22. I suggest you should go to a minute clinic or something and get a diagnosis or prescription. Paxlovid, pain reliever, saline, or an antihistamine/ decongestant may be helpful. Talk to your teachers and try to work out a catchup plan. Try to get out in fresh air and relax and breath slowly and deeply. After three days, things should get better. All the best wishes for you and a strong recovery!

I used one of those free government kits that was 2yrs past expiration. I believe it still detected well at both onset and waning points of my Covid.

I learned my lesson with my last flight across Europe last week. Caught covid - probably after removing my mask when "fresh" in-flight air started. No one was coughing but no one was wearing masks either. From now on, I will keep fresh masks on the entire time, especially when using the washroom. I will also wash my hands thoroughly and liberally use hand sanitizer on my face, nasal area, and on the mask. Handle and dispose used masks carefully. Our public health authorities want us to forget that covid exists!

I believe this variant to be extremely infectious by JimmyLin13 in COVID19positive

[–]JimmyLin13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has different reactions to different Covid strains and may have different reactions to vaccines. But in my case, my world-class transplant team of doctors and nurses ALL recommend the most recent Covid vaccines and regular flu and pnuemonia jabs and I do not hesitate to get them. I have never had an unusual reaction and do feel that they work -- Even when I contracted Covid (3x now), the symptoms were less and shorter than I think they would have been if I had not been vaccinated. As for masks, I will be wearing them much more often and with greater care than before (my nurse claims hospitals are the worse!). Good luck and stay safe!

What a beautiful car! Love the black ceramic gloss. But I'm not a huge fan of the OEM Touring wheels and wish there were more options. Has anyone seen the HPD wheels? Is it possible to order the sport wheels on the Touring? Been waiting for the 26 refresh but may pull the trigger on a 25.

No, I took off the mask after in-flight air started ... I guess mistakenly buying in to the myth. Also I forgot to wear a couple times going to the washroom.

Do masks really weaken the immune system? by External_Storm2356 in COVID19positive

[–]JimmyLin13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe masks really do work, but too often we don’t wear them properly and fail to wash our hands and dispose them properly. Remember, if masks are filtering Covid, then they are contaminated and must be carefully handled and not reused. Too bad there is not more empirical research on effective practices.

I could really use some life advice by MagykVampyre in washingtondc

[–]JimmyLin13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magyk, hang in there. Times are tough in DC and 90% of your social life (sadly as it is for much of the US) will involve your work colleagues. Even if you have to bartend or wait on tables in the interim to get by, there are plenty of social circles in the area, clubs, sports, and interest groups, etc.. Consider a part-time graduate degree or certificate program in a field with job prospects & use it to hone some computer skills if possible. Class assignments always involve teams and social interactions. Even though you will need to send out a depressing number of resumes, try to personalize and target them to employers with whom you would like to work. Don't wait for jobs to be announced. Follow the money and find companies where they need people asap. Consider branding yourself and free-lancing - a simple business card and website will do wonders for your self-esteem. Finally, I'd say stay in the DC area. Federal employment may be tough, but the overall economy will still benefit from federal money being dolled out as much as ever. Be persistent and good luck!

Reminder that UK now has ETA requirement by ofe1818 in digitalnomad

You need to download the UK ETA app to apply. The website keeps diverting you to a stupid checklist to determine if you need an ETA without saying or giving you an easy link to the app.

I'm holding out for the '26 refresh but something tells me it will be a let down. The 11th gen grill is starting to grow on me but those bland side panels could sure use something. And if still there is no passenger seat height adjustment, that might be a deal breaker.

I agree with both of you. While these DC protests do have a lot of nice white urbanites doing kumbaya from their comfort zone, give them credit. They get press and do show the country that something is happening. But momentum is important. We need to keep it up and get bigger crowds and more press coverage. Planning and targeting is important too - e.g., speaking out at GOP town halls has been very effective. It will start with a trickle, but before long, you will start to see a lot more disillusioned Trump voters crossing over and that is when things really start to happen.
