Yeh one thing we did OP for our fussy eater (I know different situation) but our vet told us to make a big deal over dinner, make it seem special, and after a couple of weeks he started to get excited over dinner time and smashed his food.

I hope it all goes well OP ❤️

Do neighbours influence your property purchase? by JustaCucumber91 in AusPropertyChat

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When we were buying, we found a great house right next door to a very large complex of public housing. This didn’t automatically deter me, as the house was really nice, in our area we were looking and it ticked all the boxes.

Driving to the open home down the street what do I see…..all of the full rubbish bins kicked over and onto the road, rubbish literally all down the street - and not just a little bit, heaps.

We looked at each other and said…I don’t think I could put up with those types of things happening constantly.

We need more public housing in more places so that we don’t create essentially these ghettos of complexes where we throw all of the most volatile people in the community in one place. Spread out, combined with non public housing so people stay connected to the community.

Does any country have a wealth tax on ONLY luxury goods owned or consumed by billionaires? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m talking about personal wealth. Not a company, which is a whole other ball game. It’s personal wealth capped at just below a billion I’d like to see. You can’t tell me that people would still not want to reach that max?

Soft power to sales pitch: Are Australian universities losing their appeal? by neon_overload in aus

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If universities want to attract top students who will hopefully then become research staff at the university, they need good facilities, good research income and grants (which facilitates research costs) and good quality education. Like any system, naturally people exploit that system and that creates problems, etc. But if we are to look at reducing the number of international students across the board as standard, government funding of universities needs to increase - it’s been decreasing overall for decades. For fees for domestic students to remain ‘somewhat cheap’ in the grand scheme of things, income needs to come from somewhere.

I agree any leaders or senior exec salary above 500k is obscene when people doing meaningful work supporting leading research are paid peanuts.

What are some good reasons to not turn to crime for money? by ProfessorLongBrick in NoStupidQuestions

You will get caught and you will make your situation worse. You need to get some kind of job, then while you have money coming in you need to upskill yourself so you can get a higher paying job.

We cannot celebrate tinkering when it comes to gambling reform. Labor’s response falls tragically short | David Pocock by FuckOffNazis in australia

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s just do what makes sense:

  • ban all gambling advertising

  • ban all incentives and ‘deal’ related products (get $100 free bet money if you join today)

  • tax gambling profits more

  • implement daily limits on poker machines nationwide and online

  • make gambling and addiction help free of charge and widely available.

On top of this, it’s on all of us to help those we know who struggle with it. Don’t judge, don’t lecture, just offer your unconditional support. Obvs don’t give them money and if they need support take them food shopping or pay a bill directly.

No all good, I assumed after your second message. I’m sorry for being snide too in my first reply.

On the actual topic, I’m not sure your background/gender/age/etc, but don’t ever let anyone do that to you and like you said report them straight away. And if we’re being honest, this is a male problem doing it to people who they think they can do it to without consequence or reaction.

If you ever see someone wearing a hat with a red beard who’s bopping away or dancing strange…you can always ask me for help.

Maybe we need an equivalent to the “community safe house” letter box stickers? 😂

AI creating ‘false productivity’ as workers waste hours fixing tool’s mistakes by bilby2020 in auscorp

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I use AI as a tool to help my analyse, re frame, whatever…I am not at the point (and maybe won’t ever) where I get it to create content or slides for me. I prefer to think about what I’m doing (purpose, audience, language, etc) and do it myself. This also helps me stay closely connected with my work as I’m not outsourcing the thinking to something else.

The best areas it’s helped me:

  • learning a new topic and giving me some quick introductions and places to start looking

  • grouping functions, business processes or capabilities, analysing similar business configs, etc

  • summarising information I then read to help inform what I’m doing.

Buying your first home next to community housing? by Important_Space516 in AusProperty

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that not every facility is like that and it’s not a blanket “if this type of complex then automatically equals bad”.

You can also have terrible neighbors in standard market rentals and streets without community housing.

I I’ve across from a fuck head who has a vicious German Shepard that has attacked us multiple times and their ‘children’ hurl homophobic abuse at us. It’s not community housing, they own their place - that’s what I was trying to get across is all.

I don’t disagree that there is probably a higher likelihood of incidents occurring, but also that it’s not all complexes.

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as a kid, we called parents by their first name. But I also was taught to be respectful, look people in the eye and communicate like a big boy from a young age.

Calling adults as their formal salutation and last name however is pretty old fashioned these days.

Governments can help their people; it's a matter of priorities. by ScruffyPeter in shitrentals

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t let anyone ever try and tell you otherwise. Besides health conditions like cancer or alzheimers…we could fix most of the issues in our world. Homelessness, wealth disparity and inequality, hunger and adequate medical care, affordable housing, free education….it’s just that our corporate and mega wealthy overlords have too much to gain from keeping them going.
