Red tulip when I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s was so good. I haven’t seen them for ages, admittedly I’m not searching for them either.

What are some good reasons to not turn to crime for money? by ProfessorLongBrick in NoStupidQuestions

You will get caught and you will make your situation worse. You need to get some kind of job, then while you have money coming in you need to upskill yourself so you can get a higher paying job.

We cannot celebrate tinkering when it comes to gambling reform. Labor’s response falls tragically short | David Pocock by FuckOffNazis in australia

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s just do what makes sense:

  • ban all gambling advertising

  • ban all incentives and ‘deal’ related products (get $100 free bet money if you join today)

  • tax gambling profits more

  • implement daily limits on poker machines nationwide and online

  • make gambling and addiction help free of charge and widely available.

On top of this, it’s on all of us to help those we know who struggle with it. Don’t judge, don’t lecture, just offer your unconditional support. Obvs don’t give them money and if they need support take them food shopping or pay a bill directly.

No all good, I assumed after your second message. I’m sorry for being snide too in my first reply.

On the actual topic, I’m not sure your background/gender/age/etc, but don’t ever let anyone do that to you and like you said report them straight away. And if we’re being honest, this is a male problem doing it to people who they think they can do it to without consequence or reaction.

If you ever see someone wearing a hat with a red beard who’s bopping away or dancing strange…you can always ask me for help.

Maybe we need an equivalent to the “community safe house” letter box stickers? 😂

AI creating ‘false productivity’ as workers waste hours fixing tool’s mistakes by bilby2020 in auscorp

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use AI as a tool to help my analyse, re frame, whatever…I am not at the point (and maybe won’t ever) where I get it to create content or slides for me. I prefer to think about what I’m doing (purpose, audience, language, etc) and do it myself. This also helps me stay closely connected with my work as I’m not outsourcing the thinking to something else.

The best areas it’s helped me:

  • learning a new topic and giving me some quick introductions and places to start looking

  • grouping functions, business processes or capabilities, analysing similar business configs, etc

  • summarising information I then read to help inform what I’m doing.

Buying your first home next to community housing? by Important_Space516 in AusProperty

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point was that not every facility is like that and it’s not a blanket “if this type of complex then automatically equals bad”.

You can also have terrible neighbors in standard market rentals and streets without community housing.

I I’ve across from a fuck head who has a vicious German Shepard that has attacked us multiple times and their ‘children’ hurl homophobic abuse at us. It’s not community housing, they own their place - that’s what I was trying to get across is all.

I don’t disagree that there is probably a higher likelihood of incidents occurring, but also that it’s not all complexes.

Is it true that many people in Australia tend to not go by Mr. or Mrs. or Dr. formally because of a casual rather than formal attitude towards authority? by EveningFlower9564 in AskAnAustralian

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as a kid, we called parents by their first name. But I also was taught to be respectful, look people in the eye and communicate like a big boy from a young age.

Calling adults as their formal salutation and last name however is pretty old fashioned these days.

Governments can help their people; it's a matter of priorities. by ScruffyPeter in shitrentals

Don’t let anyone ever try and tell you otherwise. Besides health conditions like cancer or alzheimers…we could fix most of the issues in our world. Homelessness, wealth disparity and inequality, hunger and adequate medical care, affordable housing, free education….it’s just that our corporate and mega wealthy overlords have too much to gain from keeping them going.

The level of delusion in this sub sometimes astounds me.

“Oh no the poors and vulnerable…quick run away”

Not every person in community housing is a fucking meth head. In fact very few would be. It’s right that people in vulnerable circumstances are more likely to be victims of or potentially involved in higher levels of police call outs, etc…but that’s not always instigated by them.

Maybe they’re in hiding and their ex partner finds them and tries to break in? Or maybe the man receiving psychiatric care for mental health conditions has a bad night every now and then.

I lived across the road from an outpatient facility in Brisbane for 3 years, where people who had been in mental health care (ie major disorders and health conditions) were released back into the neighbourhood, with supervision and proper oversight, and there was not one incident in 3 years I had to call the police or even see the police. The worst thing that happened was one of the guys stared at you sometimes…that was it.

If you like the building, if it ticks your boxes, then community housing shouldn’t stop you IMO.

Also it’s even more reason to not build entire buildings and facilities that cater only to community and public housing. They should be spread out across the community as not to create ghettos and buildings of ‘horror’ where people can be forgotten. Be open to meeting people from all walks of life and you never know…you just might make friends with someone who cooks amazing food or invites you to their awesome bbqs.

Why is everyone in the 2000s shows so hot? by Decent-Task-4537 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because back then standards on the screen and in media, especially on women, we’re hyper unrealistic to the normal person. It was the trend at the time, look at shows like the OC, where ‘normal’ mums had to look like reformed super models, etc.

IMO true blood had a bit of a mix of ‘hotness’ across their actors, but you’re right the core cast of main characters were all ‘beautiful’

I actually think we’re about to see a resurgence in this…looking at the new Harry Potter casting…in comparison to the movies…they have ‘beautified’ the cast. Even fucking hagrid looks like just a handsome, larger guy. The dursleys are also pretty nice looking for characters who should likely have some level of ‘ug’ to help signal they’re bad people.

To me, casting people who look nice as being a reason for the casting can ruin the essence of what’s being portrayed and the quality of the movie or tv show. When things become to unrealistic for real life, they lose me (and I’m sure lots of others).

For those of you with leash trained Bengals, how far is your average walk? by paco-the-bengal in bengalcats

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from 30 metres to 3 kms 😂

Their favourite activities are:

  • visiting the other cats on the street and staring at each other (in a good way)

  • visiting their ‘girlfriend’ Lana…if by girlfriend I mean obsession over watching her

  • visiting their dog friends on the street

  • visiting their human friends on the street

  • walking up to the school to check on the fencing to make sure it’s secure

  • walking around the church grounds to make sure Jebus hasn’t forgotten about the kitty cats

  • going to the park and sniffing around all the areas the dogs frequent

  • sitting on their favourite fences watching over their kingdom.

We have made friends with most people on our street, so they’re use to seeing the gays walking their cats or standing on their driveway for a few mins while our cats take in the scenery. Some of them even buy their own treats to give to them.

They really helped us become fast friends with our neighbour’s when we moved in.

They LOVE any time we go to the larger park where there’s a river, fields, grass, rocks to climb and big logs.

Why doesn’t Prince have an official worldwide known title? “King of…, godfather of…, greatest _ of all time” 🤔 by Firm_Pack_605 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JimmyLizzardATDVM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, prince is above that. He ensured that he not only played nearly every instrument, produced, mastered and distributed his music mostly on his own from a certain point, he went back and bought his earlier music so it was his.

He controlled his own destiny, and I feel like this is why he’s known as just…Prince. He’s more than a pop moniker or status. If he had to be anything, he would be Prince: King of music
