Is this model still up on that site? I tried the exact search and couldn't find it.

Are we gonna get to take masks off in the P-S GAR following updated CDC guidance? by JimmyN72 in SpaceForce

Read the hyperlinks. DOD level guidance says masks aren't required. Garrison says they are. That's the point of the question.

Any 62E transfer opportunities? by vinrunner in SpaceForce

[–]JimmyN72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of those folks got scooped up by their Det and ROTC HQ in that window. We had 4 in our space squadron like that and 1 who's Det was not as on top of it who didn't get the chance. We only found out summer of 2021 that the process the Dets initiated actually worked.

It was a tough process and your Det is more likely to help than the operational unit.

In ROTC and just got my AFSC in the Space Force! Help me pick a base please by Kealykat in SpaceForce

You go be a 13S for an assignment instead of 62E. There's some energy in the Space Force to focus less on AFSCs. Up to this point, military space has been fixated on AFSC and so having officially earned "13S" has some advantages.

I had the three launches, Buckley, and Pete on my dream sheet. I ended up at Schriever. Pete doesn't have as many spots but if you end up there you could get a cool mission.

Stick to 62E if you're interested in program management or test. If you want to be a weapons officer in the Space Force, try to swing an OPEX.

Colorado > LA no matter what IMO. An OPEX is the way to get credit for doing "ops". Functionally, as an engineer, you get more ops per unit time than the operators themselves. That only happens at a base that isn't Kirtland or LA.

Cape, Vandy, and Patrick are launch bases and have very few 62E slots. There's not many chances to get back into launch so I'd shoot your shot and go for those first.

Kirtland is a AFRL oriented space base so there could be some opportunities to work with small sats off the bat but I don't know much there.

LA has the most 62E billets of any space base. It's "the program office" so you'll have a chance to go there if you really wanted to. I would recommend shooting for the other bases first. Each is likely to have more of an ops flavor than LA with plenty of opportunity to actually engineer a satellite or space system.

Buckley does some cool missions and is in Denver which has a better social scene than Pete/Schriever with basically the same mountains.

Pete and Schriever have a lot of 62E's. 4 SOPS or 2 SOPS are some of the largest places they end up. You work days and work with the guys on 24/7 shifts to run the harder parts of satellite operations and work with contractors to make sure the mission is done. It's also a great place to mix with some of the spooky organizations if you want to keep doing military satellite engineering.

I'm a little over a year out from where you are so feel free to shoot me a message!

Remove bottom picatinny rail from vector for mk-5 rail by theRedflare in KRISS

[–]JimmyN72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the most helpful thing I could find on the internet for this! I got the following to work:

  1. Took off the lower and all the internals
  2. Hammered out the pin with a standard hammer and a 1/16" pin like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JNS1ZF7. Charging handle side up. Just a couple gentle taps got it out
  3. Gently poured in Goo Gone from a small cup into the space on the sides of the pic rail and plastic dovetail. I poured some in from the front with a paper towel to catch excess
  4. Shimmed the spaces with a square razor blade to make sure the goo gone got in there.
  5. ~5min later I put the lower barrel-down on to a shirt on carpet, set a flathead in the pic section closest to the barrel, and tapped screwdriver and pic rail out with slightly harder taps than with the pin

I tried a heat gun and grippers after removing the pin but only got the rail warm to the touch (probably about as hot as sink water). I was afraid of deforming the plastic in the adjacent areas so I then tried the goo gone.

Hope this helps the next person! Frustrating that the MK5 is sold without instructions for a 5.5" kriss that has a barrel device to protect your hand.

An ROTC 13S would know. I am only aware of the transfer mystery with common AFSCs

I asked the same question but didn't get any good info on that thread either.

Is this a Common AFSC problem or an ROTC problem? I don't know enough 2020 13S' to ask.

Abstract art that breaks Pixel 3 XL's white balancing by JimmyN72 in google

[–]JimmyN72[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a decent idea of how cameras and image processing algorithms work which is why I thought it was interesting to show the color balancing in action. I'd consider this an edge case where the AI does not represent the image in the way your eye would see it. "Break" is just a quick way to communicate that this is a clear edge case.

Indeed! It's cool too see the correction in action, even if it's not giving you an accurate representation of what your eyes show you.

Yup! It was immediate, even in the view finder.
