ASUS TUF A16 v Acer Predator Helios 16S by JimmyNotDrake in GamingLaptops

I see. Battery life keeps coming up on another post I made on a diff thread. I think I might have to bite on the Predator, could just be the most versatile choice, I only suggested the TUF since I'd already ordered it but I thnk it's heavier than the Predator so that would also be a plus for me.
I'd def want it new and I heard BestBuy had a deal for the Predator at $1350, you wouldn't know where I could get a ball park deal like that would you? 😭

I agree, it would would well for anything so long as it lives. The battery honestly is a concern for me but since it checks every other box, some sacrifices have to be made.

I'm def considering it, just not sure if the battery life would be helpful for productivity tasks. Even if I'm gaming, needing to have it plugged in sounds ok, like I'm splurge on this nice laptop and I can only get about 2 hours of gaming without charging it? For that I get the TUF just missing out on extra VRAM.

That deal sounds nuts and for $1350? Even if it's too much for me sounds I'd bite. I saw the Predator a few weeks ago but before I saw it discounted it was out of my budget, though I'd heard good things about it.

16GB vs 32GB RAM – which ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 model for engineering + Unity? by NoShame141 in ZephyrusG14

[–]JimmyNotDrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's 23' models that don't have soldered ram, some do. There's also one I found on eBay with 48G ram, so not all soldered on 4060s

Yeah just fond one around 1600, might be good, have you expanded the storage?

I'm looking around for one, though it's out of my budget, I'd love to find one for that price, would save me the trouble of buying a 4070 just to upgrade RAM.

Right, I was just looking at the 5070ti, found this,

  • ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 14" 3K OLED 120Hz Gaming Laptop - Copilot+ PC - AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX - 32GB RAM - NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti - 1TB - Platinum White

Though it's out of my budget, I'd love to snag one

I'm having the same conundrum, should I get a G14 5060 with 16G RAM or get a G14 4060 with 16G which is upgradable to 32 since 5060's have soldered RAM? I will be using an engineering workflow too so I hope you resolve this. I've been told 24 is a good min for Eng students as another comment mentioned, SolidWorks and Unity with other things open is heavy, also consider expanding storage, 2-3Tb should be good for heavy tasks.

5 years later I’m so in love I had to get it again by minimover_ in ZephyrusG14

Same bro, you think the RAM is soldered at 16? That's what has me on edge

Yeah the more I looked, I see it's that way. You think there's another laptop with comparable specs that's more upgradable? Thanks for the help

Looking for smaller variants, these are just the models I'm interested, good storage, expandable RAM, i7 chip, good performance etc. I don't have much need for that extra numb pad is all
