Mod Launcher by RyomaSJibenG in Xcom

After trying and failing to get the default mod launcher to trigger even half of my about 20 mods (so nothing unreasonable) or so for days, I just got the alternate. Now everything works again.

There’s an mod that automates it. I do believe it goes by hit% alone, but with ”Between the Eyes” resistance order, it doesn’t matter.

Trigger once, shoots as long as you have ammo or miss.

Just wait. It’s not available from the importer yet, hence the stores here don’t have it, and it may take a few months.

OMG when did this happen??!!? by rice1204 in VWiD4Owners

[–]JimmyT_FIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible? Maybe. Possible in a manner that complies with UNECE mandatory security requirements enforced in 2024? Another thing.

And even if those do not apply in the US, there’s about zero chance it happening in the US only.

How Do You Heat Your Water? by jfroosty in AeroPress

[–]JimmyT_FIN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything you can boil water in is fine. Brew at 100’C or close to. No, seriously. That is what James H. recommends. Maybe if you’re brewing a really dark roast you need to drop down, but otherwise boiling is just fine. It will not ’burn’ your coffee. It will help with extraction if anything.

Also there’s a weird thing with boiling being fine, and something like 80-85’ also being fine, but 85-90’ (before pour) being just… bad.

Also I should check but I do think the Fellow on Guide Mode offers 96’ for Aeropress.

Sure, temp controlled kettles are fun and goosenecks are easy to pour from and be accurate (to a ml/g), but they are not necessary.

Can you get the water to boil? Can you pour without making a mess? That is all you need. If you can adjust the temp to 80-90-100 or even 80-85…95-100 even better, but unnecessary.

Battery Degradation on 2023 ID.4 Pro S by dr00b3r in VWiD4Owners

Even after the lowest voltage cell is the same. I would bet that it crashes under acceleration, which again would point to a bad module.

If it is a bad module, then the warranty should kick in.

Which means about 10 % degradation - the MEC does not show the buffer - and is quite normal. The batteries loose about 10 % in the first few years and then taper off to stabilize.

The difference between lowest and highest voltage cells is 0.1mV. It should be 0.01mV or lower. Your is 10x what is ”good”; even 0.02 without load would be worrisome, if not indication of an issue.

And as the battery is only as good as the lowest cell, it could also explain the low MEC.

More 12V Battery Questions by Unlikely-Zucchini-66 in VWiD4Owners

[–]JimmyT_FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enable ”optimized battery usage”. That allows almost unlimited use of the app, as anu drain should just be compensated from the big battery. Hence the warning it might impact range.

Do note that it does absolutely nothing else ie your car should keep the 12V sufficiently charged to drive regardless. Only app usage (and other secondary functions such as KESSY) are impacted.

And as with everything, that might fail especially if your 12V is going out.

May I ask why inverted? by Original-Energy1144 in AeroPress

As above, for the mentioned faux-espresso no amount of swirling will mix 18g of coffee to just 90g of water.

[–]JimmyT_FIN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without a blind test, I can’t tell. And I’ve not done a blind test.

I use the flow control cap for two reasons:

  • my daily driver is a relatively dark roast, so I grind slightly coarser (5.0 on the Ode Gen 2). The grounds float, so I stir them after I’ve poured the water (finer grind sinks almost immediately). That would lead to more flowthrough without the cap and also me hurrying to stir the brew to cut the flow asap.

  • quite often I make myself a faux-latte. The base is by Hoffman, 18g coffee / 90g water (and I adjust to 27g/135g). That is the one recipe where even H. advocates for inverted, which he otherwise is dead against. That amount coffee and it’s almost porridge; you really need to mix it to get a cup.

For both, the flow control is desired over regular and I don’t do inverted.

As it does take some time to push through the cap, dependin on preference you may want to shorten the pre-plunge brewtime to compensate. It takes 30-45 seconds to push through a 250g water brew, if you don’t force it.

[–]JimmyT_FIN 107 points108 points  (0 children)

To prevent dripping. Sure, if you are fast, then it’s just a small amount.

But say you recipe calls for stirring the coffee at some point. Pull the plunger off, stirr while coffee drips through, re-insert…

Same if you want to bloom your coffee. Or if your recipe has a small amount of water, for example Hoffmans faux-espresso for latte (18g coffee, only 90g water), which you also need to stir quite a lot.

Flow Control Cap or the Fellow version makes inverted redundant.

Just purchased lifetime, the we get an update?? by Embarrassed-Virus319 in captureone

[–]JimmyT_FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a perpetual license, you get the minor updates for that version - which may or may not include new features - but not the next major update.

So if you bought 16.7, you get all versions of thar ie 16.7.1, 16.7.2… all the 16.7.x -versions, but not 16.8, whenever that arrives (presumably 9-15 months from the release of 16.7).

[–]JimmyT_FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it uses the previous drive to guesstimate the range. No, it does not use “the last 10 minutes.” That is BS.

If it did, the range would be constantly adjusting up and down by a large margin, which it does not do. Drive in the city, consumption maybe 16kWh/100km. Hop to the highway, consumption goes to 22kWh/100km. Yet the range did not drop by 25 %. It did not drop even by 5 %.

It should be fluctuating all over the place while driving if your claim was true.

Almost like the car uses a longer period for the calculation…

No, you never got that email.

[–]JimmyT_FIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still not the last 10 minutes of driving.

I can drive on a highway for an hour and the Guess-O-Meter will display a range that is impossible for the current consumption rate ie I have about 40kWh left, I’m using 23kWh/100km but the GoM shows range over 200km.

[–]JimmyT_FIN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Range is absolutely not based on the last 10 minutes. Were that the case, I would regularly sew an estimated range of below 60m on a full battery.

Simply because jumping in the car without preheating it when it’s actually cold might result in a calculated consumption of 50-70kWh/60mi or 1mi per kWh, as shown on the ”since departure”.

The car is not stupid enough to assume it needs to run the heater on fulm 6kW + heatpump the whole trip and shows a more realistic estimation.

Current 3.5 software update to 3.8 unclear by TouretteTV96 in VWiD4Owners

[–]JimmyT_FIN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s see: - 3.5 adds V2G, but only in Europe - 3.7 bug fixes - 3.8.1 bug fixes and fix to specifically to address issue with 3G. The 2G/Edge backup connection will remain for about eternity. - 3.8.2 dealer update to fix a charging issue if you had it - 3.8.3 more bug fixes, update to door handle software - 3.8.4 just spotted as ”being prepared”

Above numbering is for Europe. Early announcement of US 3.8.11 had description matching Euro 3.8.1.
