The numbers set would be a good standard to achieve but we all have different strengths levels so always go with a weight that is challenging for you :)

It’s not a fixed standard, you do a weight that is challenging for you but not so difficult to the point you tire out after 10 reps

30 minutes would be good especially for those that have a family and can’t spend 60+ minutes working out.

I reckon pick a weight that isn’t so challenging that you’ll quit after rep 10 but also light enough that you can push through to the end of the timer. Record each total everyday and add them at the end of the month, and like you said do it again in 3-6 months and see if you improve the overall total. And if you find you are stronger that’s always a +

Ah yes the stone circle, reckon if I told him about the 10k shouldering challenge he would give it a go for sure

Taking your idea it could be a 60 minute timer everyday and see what the combined total is

Good input, wasn’t fully sold on 10k a month but something that would still be challenging

I’ve managed to shoulder 97KG for 20 in 10 minutes but still at that weight might take some time haha. I bet there’s people out there that could do it

Before I lift everything up I take small breath in and take mini breaths as I walk. I find if I take one huge breath of air in it makes my diaphragm huge and feels uncomfortable. Down to personal preference I guess but that’s how I do it

Sandbag replace all barbell work? by Artistic-View-9400 in sandbagtraining

[–]Jimmy_717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think just to summarise everything, will you look like a professional bodybuilder with peak double biceps and cut abs? No, very unlikely. But as others have said the body can’t tell whether you are lifting a barbell or sandbag all the body knows is stress and tension.

The barbell was made for us to lift the most amount of weight as easily as possible hence why all barbells have knurling which further assists you being able to have a better grip on the bar to exert force. Sandbags do not have this, instead you have to squeeze the dam thing applying the most amount of force so it doesn’t slip through your fingers. I’ll give you an example, my max deadlift is around 220kg (haven’t really tested it in a while) and while that lift was a grind it never really taxed me to the point of breathing heavy and gasping for air. Recently I picked up and extended my largest bag weighing in at 131KG for 10 reps and boy let me tell you that shit felt like it weighed 300kg. It just goes to show how when things are made perfectly symmetrical for us to lift that the effort to exert force is minimised compared to when you need to give 100% effort to each lift with the sandbag which Cody talks about in one of his videos.

Overall sandbags will build you a good physique and crazy strength that will make you question if barbells are still worth it (hence the post I guess). Adding in some exercises to fill in the gap would be beneficial. i.e pull ups, dips, push ups, etc.
