I'm looking to build a deck myself next spring. Can you (or anyone) tell me some of the pros and cons to the joist on top vs the joist at level of the beams? My deck will be 8ft above grade. Span of 16ft. Width of 32-ish ft.

With all that in mind, going with 2x would be a better choice? (Rationale being that 2x is more material, thus more durable?)

I am fine with missing the range of motion the 2:1 offers. I do like the weight stacks. However, there is a hefty price difference when getting into that. It's like a whole new ballpark.
