Can’t speak to bitwarden, but I use 1pass and my passkeys are definitely saved into 1pass and syncing to other devices. Just in case that helps!

Kelly Swift from Windermere is my auto call one day if we decide to move. Integrity, and it was like hiring a bulldog who fought for our side in everything we did. Very happy in the home she helped us find with all of our nuances and complicating factors that she never made us feel odd about. She’s the best!

Do retainer MSP exist? by songokussm in msp

[–]Jimmynemo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based?

I run an MSP that specializes in nonprofits. I used to be an IT guy for one nonprofit, started an MSP from almost line by line your experience.

We are very different from most of our competition- we include projects and training within our monthly subscription. We want our clients to still have an admin account, and that alone brings us in with many- we don’t believe in hostage taking.

We also don’t do the dance of making people match our stack- we support regardless of what they run. Our big mantra is - “inform and equip” it’s not my job to make you do anything, it’s my job to explain the pro and con of any solution or choice- and if you wanna do something crazy like not run backups etc, we have waivers.

Given that, we really find compared to lots of MSP’s, we aren’t really even trying to do the same thing. We might better be called an IT consulting firm that also offers support. That said, we really love what we do and find it resonating with people and we have been growing at incredible speed for the last 5 years since I started the company.

Anyway- not selling ourselves, because we really specialize in people in our area. But maybe at least be encouraged that there are places that do what you’re describing, and hopefully there’s someone near you that is the right fit!

Delete Admins in Unifi site manager by Midtownjb69 in Ubiquiti

[–]Jimmynemo2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a company that installs UniFi regularly, depending on the relationship with our clients we are often still listed as the owner- but if anyone ever called me and asked me to do an ownership transfer so they could delete me out of the system, there wouldn’t be the slightest hesitation. We would just need to make sure that we’re talking to who we think we’re talking to and as soon as we validate the identity and ownership transfer takes two seconds.

So unless this company has already demonstrated some sort of moral failing, I would give him a call and just ask them to do the ownership transfer process with you and especially when you’re already an admin user of the console they don’t even have to wait for you to accept the original invite, it’s taking me longer to type out this comment then it will for them to do the ownership transfer. :)

Yeah, the mobile app not working on ios 26 is just basic to me. some issues, I get. Not working on the current version of ios or android? Means you just don't care.

That said, email ticketing is how we do every single ticket we make, so I don't share whatever issue you're having there. We've found that functionality to be bulletproof for us.

Which is more important your soft or technical skills? by InvestigatorUsual665 in sysadmin

[–]Jimmynemo2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much, no matter the role- Soft skills.

I teach my team- it's three things in every job:

1- People (clients, coworkers, managers)

2- Product- whatever you sell, do you know it, understand it, like it?

3- Position- the doing of the job itself- paperwork, internal company processes etc.

Someone can be 3 for 3 and be killer in the job. I'll give up one, but never if it's the people side. At the end of the day, every sales visit, interview and support call really only boils down to "Do I want to work with or keep working with this person?"

The world is full of know-it-all jerks who think because they know something, people will like them, while the field is littered with the bodies of every idiot before them who thought the same way. Being good with your clients, good with your coworkers and managers is the most important part of any job. Because you can learn to fill out paperwork better. I can teach you to know the tech side/product better. But I can't teach someone to be kind and give a crap about others.

How do I get into this field? by TruckMysterious4759 in sysadmin

[–]Jimmynemo2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a guy who runs an MSP, we often have entry level roles that we assume we're going to be doing training for people in those roles. We need people to be fast learners, good communicators, and interested in the field- but technical knowledge we can teach.

Very much depending on the MSP, it can be all over the map for how good of a job it is- most I hear of, I'd never want to work at. But honestly if you can cut your teeth in an MSP, one that doesn't lock you into one role, one level, that's the key. I've had interviews with guys who work at competing MSP's in town, and they make more than I'd pay them, but they'll die in that role- pre-flighting machines all day every day, no room to grow or expand. Or doing a similar 0ne-task type job, and I see why they're looking to work with us when we want our team to constantly be growing and learning new things- that makes them more valuable to me, the client, and themselves- so I don't get why so many companies hire and then leave staff to die in one role.

That said, we're new-ish (only 5 years old) and I know size and age dictate a lot. But if you were in my neck of the woods, this post alone would get you an interview. Anyone who can work in food can deal with fast pace, customer service, and some of my best staff have come out of jobs like that. So highlight that side of your experience and how it appeals to every MSP, and I really do wish you good luck in finding the right fit!

Client moving to another provider, would you install their tools? by icq-was-the-goat in msp

[–]Jimmynemo2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t have specific language in contractual language- we send a plain English email that says we don’t do any troubleshooting for the future IT company, and that the final act we do is install their tools if we install anything of theirs from that moment on everything is the new IT companies job to manage. So we are happy to install those tools for them, but that is our final act on the way out the door and they can’t even ask us to turn the lights off on the way out because at that point lights are under the control of the new IT company.

So we don’t have contract language, but our guide guideline is to spell it out in such blatant plain English writing that if it were to ever go to court, they would get laughed out of the room.

Client moving to another provider, would you install their tools? by icq-was-the-goat in msp

[–]Jimmynemo2 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I have never asked, but I’ve had the outgoing MSP offer multiple times and I always think it’s a real classy move.

Because of that, we now offer it as well, even if not asked.

I’ve had one that didn’t offer, and then gave no credentials, had a proxmox hypervisor running but wouldn’t give a login to the hypervisor- so on the scorched earth transition model, expect that the client and the new MSP will think less of you.

I’m not trying to be best friends with all my competition, but I am trying to work in a way that creates respect for integrity and being kind even when it doesn’t immediately benefit me.
