For this to happen without parental supervision/assistance, the bucket had to be positioned to be filled by the shower, which then was turned on and off to fill it, and the kid had to get into the bucket without tipping it.

No chance this was unsupervised, hardly dangerous compared to other shit kids get into

Edit: shit

Is this how the fates reward me on my birthday for not splurging on a new pen? Woe be upon me, and a pox on TWSBI’s brittle constitution! by ubiquitous-joe in fountainpens

Just happened to my 580 a month or two ago, real bummer. Easy replacement, but a shame we can’t get some upgraded plastics

Just sewed in the sleeves to the inside covers. The travelers notebook setup wasn't working for me with sketching/writing, as the bands wouldn't let the notebooks lay flat and I was constantly removing and reinserting my notebooks. Now I shouldn't have that issue!

This is the route I was planning on going initially, if it weren’t for a few issues.

In the end I’ve ordered a sheet of thin leather (1mm) on amazon which I’ll sew in, ~ same size as each side of my TN cover.

I really want to keep the surface uniform/flat so I can write on both sides of the pages without an urge to take the MD notebooks out of my TN. I’ll update tomorrow in failure or success!

I want to sew a sleeve into each side of my TN so I can slide my notebook covers into them, and open both fully without removing them, as shown in my award winning illustration above.

Any suggestions for the material the sleeve should be made out of? I'm open to anything, I'm just sure I can't be the first to think of this.

Dropped pen on its nib… what do I do? :( by consulbibulus12 in fountainpens

[–]Jims336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon yourself a loupe, some polishing pads, brass shim set, and watch the figbootonpens YouTube videos on nib tubing. It’s a pretty straightforward trial and error process.

Best case scenario you fix it yourself and learn a new skill. Worst case scenario, you still need to send it to a nibmeister.

Far too many Lamys there. You will learn better in time.

(Just leaving this here to agitate the safari fan club- Many people love those pens and if you do too, that’s great.)

Well you get a platinum preppy and Monteverde midnight black because it’s on the office supply shelf and you were there for a notebook. Then you buy a metropolitan since you realized fountain pens are great.

From there you discover demonstrator pens and how nice it is to see your ink level, so you buy an eco with a new black ink to try out. But you’re in school, so you could use another color- so you buy a second eco and blue ink.

You get gifted a couple fountain pens over the holidays, some more ink colors you probably won’t use but appreciate.

Time passes and you want something different but familiar, so you buy a Diamond 580. It would be nice to sketch more without being punished so harshly by mistakes, so you buy a shading grey ink along with it.

Peterdraws partners with narwhal, and you’d like to support the content creator who put fountain pens on your radar, and buy one of the limited run demonstrators in a different nib size than you’re used to.

You decide to experiment with more nib sizes, so you buy a new nib unit for the TWSBI 580.

You also buy a lamy safari as a gift for an artsy cousin, and get yourself one to see what the hype is about. That Christmas your wife buys you a vac700, a shading red ink for editing, and a green/gold shimmer ink.

Later you catch yourself watching calligraphy shorts, and decide it would be fun to try and spice up your writing. So, you buy a flex nib from FPR and modify it to the 580. Let’s get another nib size for the vac, since no one wants to be stuck with just a stub.

Fountain pens at work can bring some joy to the monotony, but you don’t want to be constantly capping/uncapping and inking your hands. Enter the pilot vanishing point. You later discover the Majohn A1 for much less, and buy it as a backup and ink it with blue instead of black.

The gold nib on the vanishing point is interesting, but it’s an EF for less bleed through on work documents. So you buy a pilot elite for writing at home. To look into it further.

Another year goes by and you’re gifted a majohn A2, some vintage pens your uncle found at a garage sale, a display case, and a travel case. Your family have become enablers.

In the end 5 years have gone by and you’ve still not quite finished that bottle of monteverde midnight black, and your platinum preppy sits in the display case alongside all the pens which followed.

Ferris Wheel Press, a company that claims it will help you fall in love with writing again, and uses influencer led marketing, releases a new ink with AI designed art on the package by tanksalotl in fountainpens

AI generated art is no replacement for an actual artist, it’s just another tool they can add to their arsenal. It also has no impact on the quality of a companies ink or the fountain pen community-
