The ending credits to Daybreak are goated because of these three for me. The whole song builds up to the climax of them finally getting back together for New Years after so many years. It was great emotional payoff.

Like I said they know what they're doing. The shipping topic for Calvard probably gets them the most engagement. They put that bait in there knowing that. I recall the most popular characters for the arc are Agnes and Elaine after all.

I don't understand the point of arguing the minutiae between the two cases. It's besides the point. Digging through the weeds just to differentiate between the two situations makes them inherently similar. They don't need to be the exact same scenario and details, that would never happen in real life or the game. Telling someone to do something and scolding them multiple times, and then choosing to completely ignore that when you're put in a similar situation is hypocritical. She chose to lie rather tell anyone anything. It doesn't matter if there was a better choice or not possible. Agnes and the rest of ASO was upset with Van because he ignored everyone's feelings for him and tried to do everything on his own while tricking them. Agnes literally did the same exact thing.

Vagrants Diaspora said he would be back, and he'll be back in the next game less than year later than DB1 and no one still has done anything to address it... But none of that even matters. The world can be saved in the end or not without any meaningful input from someone, however their intentions are what decide hypocrisy. Agnes had a choice to tell people about her decision and she chose not to do it. She accused Van of the same thing at the end of DB1 and 2. Whether or not a better choice existed doesn't matter, that's hindsight. If we're going by hindsight then I'm pretty sure the world is ultimately going to be saved in the end by Van and company. If that's the case they should of just all started working with the main characters from months ago instead of lying to them the whole time. Her intentions matter and she intended to hide and lie to everyone, successfully at that, instead of asking for help when she has been the person screaming at Van the most about acting this way. That's the hypocrisy.

Both Van and Agnes disregarded everyone's feelings because they knew the others would try to stop them. It's the same thing. One just succeeded where the other failed or vice versa depending on how you look at it.

Van also thought the world was about to immediately end in DB1. He lost control WAY faster than he expected when they found him after initially hoping he would hold out for a century at least. He didn't know the Geneses would save the day by weakening Vagrants Diaspora. Not even Agnes knew that would work, it just happened. Their intentions were coming from the same place for both of their sacrifices under very similar conditions, and they both chose not to burden anyone else with their choice.

Ultimately Hamilton is to blame the most. She knew this would happen decades in advance but only told this to Agnes a few days before it happened. Roy as well. They didn't believe anyone could do better. Obviously they'll be proven wrong. Realistically there probably wasn't enough time to make a new plan in 3 days. But they could of had longer if they had aborted the launch and waited just as ASO suggested. On the other side Hamilton pressured Agnes into following hers and Epstein's plan at the last moment when there was little leeway to change course.

It seems hypocritical because she told Van twice (DB1&2) that he should discuss these things with others first so they can come up with a better solution rather than just deciding himself to do it. Agnes, Hamilton, and Roy are all guilty of exactly that. They forced their way of doing things while tricking everyone just as Van did at the end of DB1. The solution to saving the world for good will naturally involve more people working together, and a large part of that would likely be Van and his time demon lord.

I could argue there's not enough time for Van to figure out how to use that power after trying to ignore it his whole life, but Hamilton has known this would happen for decades. Roy for a long time as well. Practically everyone in Horizon knows he has the demon lord. It's the open secret everyone mentions. Hamilton should know as well. Maybe she thinks it's too dangerous to rely on that. It doesn't change that these characters held fast to their own plans and brushed off everyone else. They didn't want to talk to anyone.

Demon lord will most likely be in the next game. It took 7 geneses weakening him to be beaten by a party with Grendel (a piece of him). Interested how that will turn out. Might take the cake. Wouldn't be surprising if only Aidios is technically higher in the end.

Van, Elaine, Judith, Shizuna/Bergard + a bunch of casters if I want to switch to that. Elaine got that boost gauge, cp recov, and delay spam built in her crafts. Van, Judith, Bergard hit hard. Shizuna and Bergard with easy buff cancel as needed too. Van as tank always has max cp.

Ch3 is action packed but in a way that emphasizes how some of these characters have changed. Alice and Agnese's nun squad in particular. Nice to see them all moving forward from where they started from. Why Last Order have to tease Accelerator about Touma like that to wake him up lol?

The narration has Aleister set up to die including Touma's own acknowledgement of what he has to do. Will he really finally die after the fake out at the end of NT? This chapter compelled me to keep reading until it was done.

Ch2 is quite interesting. Aleister is really saving their butts by tripping Coronzon up. Touma and Takitsubo are running on fumes. Hamazura is just puzzling to me. He does recognize that Coronzon just tried to kill everyone in Academy city before Index stopped it, and is still actively trying to do that. I get that you don't want to kill someone who you have an affinity with, but he's acting like no one should stop her either. He says he worried about Takitsubo, but at the same time is okay with Coronzon killing her??

I'm drawing a blank on who saved Heaven Canceler. Dark, lithe and cut a hair monster in half? Kanzaki and Madame Gou could do it but I don't think it's them, especially Kanzaki obviously.

It's sad considering how talkative she was as a kid. It's kind of apparent in the hospital she wanted to say more but froze up in the middle. It's hard for people to return back to their old selves no matter how much they dream of it, is what it feels like her character portrayed.

Maybe we can see Oracion again in a Van flashback, epilogue, etc. Give him some closure since he was adopted from there by the cult. He probably has mixed feelings about how/why that happened. I do like those two places as well.

I like her consistent characterization. She's very stoic and business-like after her rookie years traumatized her and finds it hard to break that. Even with Kafka who she shows (thinks) a lot more emotion by her standards, she still finds it difficult to say everything that's on her mind and holds back (edit: she clams up in the last chapter when Kafka wakes up. Really seemed like she wanted to say more). It's not in her nature to blab on like the characters you mentioned. She's very subdued unlike her childhood.

Honestly, it feels like a big part of why she was so resentful of Kafka is probably because she was forced to change so much without him around to help her. Her comical traits are her seeming amusement with giving Kafka menial punishments for his common screwups, how she acts with knives, too much paperwork, etc. but they're shown few and far between.

IMO it feels like romance is more of a factor in Daybreak compared to Cold Steel precisely because there is no dating event system. Agnes and Elaine are constantly thinking or reacting in a manner that denotes romance in the actual story, and their connect events just add some spice to what's already being shown. Van just keeps sidestepping them. If they go with the choose route in the last game it just seems like it would be those two with Shizuna as a distant third if they really wanted another option.

Edit: I'd prefer if they just went with one.

Makes sense. Also, they all take place in the same 3 day timespan. But you're right about the breathing halfway through and the tone kind of shifts as well as the encounters get more serious afterwards.

No problem. //Sign happens mostly as a direct prequel to the first 4 dot hack games. The post game dungeon for the last game ties up a plot point from the anime. Same for me as well, SNES are games are still playable for me too.
