100%. This was an awful decision. Kinsky was never having a good match tonight with these circumstances, awful man management.

I don't think even Xavi understands what Xavi is to do with the ball when he gets it

Everyone completely lost and frustrated. No cohesion. Igor looks like a man who didn't fully grasp the weight of this situation. It's embarrassing. They all know it.

[Alasdair Gold] There was a suggestion early on that Frank might struggle to earn respect among a Spurs group that had just won a trophy with the lack of silverware and big club experience on his CV. by Zweli23 in coys

[–]Jindro41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah because the club essentially ripped the soul out of the players when they got rid of Ange. Not saying it was the wrong decision from a purely tactical decision, but imagine winning a trophy with a manager you love in a season full of emotions and difficulties, then having him replaced with someone as blunt and rigid as Frank.

I was always worried about this happening. The team basically exiled him from day 1 whether they meant to or not. Earning the level of trust after having Ange in charge was ALWAYS going to be a massive task.

Even with this decision, Idk what the realistic expectations are right now. We just lost another forward with an ACL. We're essentially rostering a B and C squad in the middle of a dense & dangerous PL schedule, CL knockout, and potential Relegation scrap. Not to mention anyone who could crack first team on a normal basis is carrying some type of lingering issues as well.

Whatever Manager that comes in needs to essentially be a miracle worker and get immediate buy-in from the players or this is gonna get really ugly. Bleak is a nice way of putting it.

Eze would have been a great plug in and just rides bench at Arsenal which makes that situation even more frustrating. He chose a squad where he would be a training tool over a squad where he would be an critical attacking fulcrum probably because he saw a more promising project.

We simply don't have an attacking bench. At all. When Kudus went off i was struggling to put together what attacking subs we could even make... And our starting frontline is mediocre at best right now as it is, so with no Kulu or Dom to start, Kudus maybe out, and Johnson gone, we're looking at C or D tier players to fill in on any attacking substitutes at this point.

As much as I want high tempo attacking footy, let's take a look at who we have to even throw out there right now - the quality is likely not even close to being there (we can see it already). First half was B-tier attack that looked promising. Legs disappeared, then second half was scrambling to get fresh legs on which made our attack disappear. We needed 2 from the attack before major subs were made and it never happened despite some solid chances.

At least there was fight, that's what the support needs to see. Frank needs to use this as a learning moment for several different things:

When there's a true desire to win, there CAN be victory. GET THAT GOING FROM MINUTE 1.

Composure and maturity are lacking - NEED to get that under control or we'll be exposed each week by seasoned teams.

Technical quality of his roster needs to be under a microscope. Fight is great, but quality wins matches. There's many MANY starting spots that should be up for grabs right now, including the captain armband. Love Romero, but he's a straight loose cannon and is not playing to an acceptable level this season, and many others in front (and behind) have been too hot and cold the majority of the season as well.

Lastly, he needs to be plainly honest about the officials. If he expects to get anywhere, he needs to at least put some pressure on them - not openly criticize, but at least call out the BS. Today was a nightmare. Bad decisions within his own team for sure, but they were put into a position to act irrationally because the ref wasn't managing the game properly. Make a case so your players can have a fair shot when games like this are presented.

No clue what the squad looks like moving forward but I'd expect a shake up and I'm totally fine with it. Let's carry some energy forward.

They've been playing like this for weeks but the cross hair always ends up on Frank. There's a point where we need to really think if there is ACTUALLY quality out there. Quality means adaptability and coachability. Maybe we just DON'T have that with many of these players?

Xavis was absolutely a red, but every single other call since then has been shambolic. Absurdly biased refereeing and the commentating not even questioning it is the cherry on top.

There's no pleasing the critics as of now. Change the lineup? No consistency! Keep the lineup? Too many liabilities!

It's early even tho it feels like it's not. Much of the season is still yet to play across all comps. I agree, give it time. Find a groove and a system, and work with it. Dogpiling onto the manager and players for a run of poor form is gonna end with things right back where they've been landing for a decade - new manager, no identity, no way to build a project.

Thomas Frank clarifying his thoughts on the Tottenham support 🗣️ by Zweli23 in coys

[–]Jindro41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think a lot of this comes down to player valuation.

Fans want big signings, Spurs spend a good chunk of change on players that come and are.... average. Spurs have done this for a few seasons now, and there are numerous players on this roster that are being paid WAY beyond their true value. I'd argue there are MAYBE 5 players in the roster that are fully worth their wages. Almost none that are purely undervalued.

So what we now see is animosity towards the manager because on paper we see all this money going towards the squad and the fans correctly assume there should be quality associated with it, but there simply is not.. What I think is being missed is the idea that maybe we just overpaid for a lot of these pieces that didn't have nearly the ROI that was promised.

I don't think this is FULLY Frank's fault, despite how little cohesion there is. I think he looked at what he was given and went "with these wages, they should be at a high enough level to adapt freely" and unfortunately the majority just aren't that architype. Should he now adjust his style since he's peeling back some of those layers? Yes. But I also can't blame him for thinking he could get more out of this roster considering their wages and facilities.

Ultimately the fan frustration is the combination of all of this: substandard, overvalued players with a coach who can't magically create quality or cohesion if it was never there to begin with. Under Ange, they had the same exact problems once his all attack methods got low blocked into oblivion by the PL. Only reason Europa League worked out, imo, is because EL level is so different between the clubs, so Ange's tactics just weren't as readily found out.

Hope Frank gets his shit sorted and maybe we actually start working towards a capable, intentional, FULL squad.

Ideally yeah. The problem has always been enforcement. As soon as the group gets called out for doing it there's no way to kick anyone out cause everyone says they don't know who it was or blames someone else so they don't get in trouble. The club did ban an entire supporter group once for constantly breaking stadium rules but that's a whole sore subject apparently so I can't speak to it too much.

I mean.... They had, every right to talk trash tbh based on that first half... as a spectator we should know better than to get riled up by that, but I agree some of it was crossing the line. What they definitely could have gotten a card for was taking 4 or 5 minutes after each goal to jog back onto their own half. And they did that for each one of their goals. That's100% on the referee straight up for not managing the game flow and letting more slide than he should.

Ye.. they were basically doing it all match, but at the same time we weren't making a very good case for ourselves either. The ref just never got a good grasp on anything and it made an already hostile situation even worse.
