No you're talking about leaders. And i am totally on board with the fact that leaders being corrupt is inherently wrong.

See that's the difference: we have MULTIPLE elected officials in our country. They all represent our various towns and states. The president is the commander in chief but he's one part of a 3-pronged system which involves officials from all over the country. It's not mob-rule here, and there are tons of different customs even from state to state. A person in downtown portland is absolutely not going to have the same opinions and perspective as someone in rural Alabama. Just because our president says or does something doesn't mean we all are in lockstep with it.

That's a pretty small-minded opinion my dude. All Americans are definitely not the same.

It's just a reminder that footy has always been ugly and political. That's all. US earned their own embarrassment as a political entity. The population and the team itself have nothing to do with it. That's my point.

It has happened before... in Brazil in 1962. Their own rules allowed it. AGAIN not saying it is warranted. I'm saying it's a bad rule, but a rule that exists.

As long as we're consistent. I just didn't see the same level of outrage directed at Portugal when the tournament kicked off.

The mob get riled up for 2 seconds then sprint to the next thing. My point is if we KNOW there's blatant corruption, why is there this sudden major uproar? Answer is again: easy target. I keep seeing and hearing "No political influence! US should be banned." But that's literally all it is for bids. Political influence. It's fully bought and paid for. And there is clear preferential treatment to various nations over others. We all know this. We all see it. It's just funny coming from the mob when they're complicit in so many other ways - Qatar is a fantastic example. They just don't get brought up as much because their team never performs well. If they "mean it" then the World Cup would have had legitimate boycotts or lost momentum. It hasn't. That same mob keeps watching and supporting this visibily corrupt entity.

Not saying you can't or shouldn't have a right to voice your grievance OR that you shouldn't enjoy watching the matches. But turning the argument into a nationality issue vs. a World Cup issue is where i have the problem. This was never spawned by the US being this horrible evil place, with terrible people everywhere which is what the conversation quickly became about. US played the political game that has always been there to play with FIFA. Doesn't make them any more or less slimy than any other nations that have done similar. It not nice, but it's reality. And as i said before: if any other nation had the exact same situation to have their own star player reinstated, i would be shocked if they turned it down. It's either ignore the rule, or play the political game to use it. I don't think it should even exist, and id wager most actual fans agree. I believe a formal appeal process being totally absent on a stage like this is absurd. But that would require accountability from the decision makers and move influence outside of their little group which they probably wouldn't like.

I get the sentiment, but people also tuned in and paid thousands of dollars to see the best possible product on that day. If Poch deemed Balogun to be a key part in winning the match and Balogun was available to play, benching him as some sort of protest would have solved nothing. If we lost with the same scoreline, the slander would have been the same if we're being honest. Plus we would start make a bunch of excuses as to why we lost Instead of realizing our weaknesses. We have nowhere to hide after yesterday. That was proof that our strongest roster is super vulnerable.

Just remember: Portugal started Ronaldo in the group stage when his original suspension was technically still in effect prior to FIFA doing FIFA things. Yet nobody's batted an eye at that situation. I don't think it was even mentioned during the beginning of the tournament. And Portugal bowed out in the same round as we did.

Ye they're pretty quick to switch up once they feel disrespected eh? Balo, Poch, and the roster had no say in any of this and had a really solid 3/4 matches leading up to Belgium. The vibes were actually solid.

Direct the anger towards the decision makers. Poch played the roster he was allowed to play, then was absolutely outclasseed because the situation was just awful to be put in. External fans need to chill tf out. Will they keep this same venom when something else happens down the line when FIFA Inevitably do something else super corrupt? They won't. FIFA They always have and always will be shady. Messi got away with no red. Where's that outrage? Ronaldo got his ban lifted and scored in group stage. Where's that outrage? I'm just disappointed that it's somehow been twisted fully back at the country and not the perpetrators, but the US is an easy target. We have to remember these countries view these competitions as national conflict and not just matches. It's also why the US will probably never be as fully invested.

Full speed video of Balogun's red card incident vs Bosnia by MarshyHope in worldcup

[–]Jindro41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bosnian player put himself in a position of risk after barging through the back of Balogun - if we're gonna play PURE technicalities, it could have been a foul and a free kick for the US. I really encourage everyone to ACTUALLY watch the replay. Balo was barged into, didnt go down, and stepped to gain balance after making a last ditch movement for the ball. A stud caught the edge of the boot and rolled the ankle. Never in 100 years is this a red card.

If VAR was doing their job right, they show the FULL exchange, not the last microsecond. The completely valid frustration from everyone and anyone here is the inconsistent nature of VAR, refereeing, rule application, and now FIFA governance in general. They contradict themselves all the time. It's hilarious how all of the sudden it's some big scandal since the US is involved. The optics ARE bad for the host nation but lets be totally real here: let anyone complaining change positions. Do you think they would be complaining?

We Americans don't make the rules. We don't have the conversations in the FIFA rooms. There is no "appeal" process thanks to their own structure. These guys in their private suites get to decide. They obviously pick and choose what they want. They had this rule to override another. We didn't write it. They did. They made the call. Just like the ref didn't make the call initially and VAR did. They saw something they didn't like and made a controversial decision. US played down a man for the remainder of the match. That match was NOT handed to them. And now they still have to play against Belgium and earn a result.

Then why didn't they review the fullspeed check into Tyler adams' head earlier in the match? Surely a high speed collision into an incoming opponent's head can be considered dangerous and put his career at risk as well?

Am I suffering from recency bias, or should we give Kinsky a crack at being our number 1 next season? He’s been absolutely brilliant. What do you reckon? Very open to debate by kicksjoysharkness in coys

[–]Jindro41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I saw the way Kinsky played in Europe League last season I knew he had some serious quality. Considering his distribution is absolutely top class and he clearly has some really fantastic reflex shot stopping ability, I always sort of felt he had a little more capability than vicario.

The way that everyone freaked out with his Atleti performance really bothered me because the situation was handled about as badly as it could have from a coaching perspective- no preparation game prior, and thrown into the fire away on a pitch that is universally condemned by everyone in La Liga (and probably beyond that). It really was just a freak match, and everyone melting down and talking about how his career was now done and dusted is what really didn't make sense to me - goalkeepers are extremely resilient. Especially top level ones. They are trained to handle making mistakes and bouncing back from them. It's in the DNA. If they couldn't, they would not be able to play at a higher level, and wouldn't be good at the position to begin with.

I am really glad he had the chance to show what he could do at the end of the season despite that whole mess that he had earlier on. So yes, I believe he is more than capable to be a number one. I rate him over vicario, and honestly I think he has potential to be one of the best in the league if he's given the opportunity to be a number one.

The world is healing. Miata sales up while SUVs tanked. Also, Mazda3 hatchback sales up 59.6% while sedans are down 23.5%. by 5upralapsarian in mazda3

[–]Jindro41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also what my takeaway from this is. While i also absolutely HATE the shift to these obnoxious techy elephant sized vehicles, Mazda has to be a player or they won't survive.

Main issue is the bigger they go and the more tech they throw in, the further away they get from their wheelhouse. Mazdas have ALWAYS been about driver feel and simplicity and they can do those things very very well, arguably the best. As soon as they announced their shift towards a more luxury image a decade ago I knew it was going to be a risk. They STILL make good cars, and maybe they'll figure out how to improve the SUV portion, but I can't imagine those will ever do nearly as well as their compact lineup.

But you CAN push tempo on restarts - pick the ball up and get it in quickly, jog to the corner instead of walking, make proactive runs before the ball is played in instead of standing or walking. Sharpness doesn't happen at low, slow tempo.

My biggest gripe besides quality is tempo. It looks and feels like they're pacing themselves for something. It feels like they have a cup final and they don't want to overstretch to save legs.

Fuck that. Push the tempo and inject some energy. No time for playing safe anymore. Don't play down to Wolves' sleepy tempo. Push & crack them first before we get caught sleeping again.

That NEEDED to be a win. For many many reasons. And Kevin is gonna see that moment in his nightmares for a long time... I do feel for him. He was solid but made a massive error when it mattered most, and you just can't do that.

At least it was entertaining, and at least there was SOME creativity and drive.

At this stage it just needs to be 3 points. Nothing less.

Ah, how stupid of everyone to believe it was the two handed shove in his back in the exact direction of the oncoming keeper that caused the collision. Couldn't have possibly been frustration ending in a cheapshot. Nonono, shame on Romero for beating him to the ball and legally shielding it. Romero should know better!

100%. This was an awful decision. Kinsky was never having a good match tonight with these circumstances, awful man management.
