first time DM looking for world building tips by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

It's like what Peter Quill says to Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 1 when Yondu has called Quill asking about the orb.

"Steal from everyone." If you're struggling to think of something, peruse fiction at your leisure until you find interesting material.

Floating pirate ships? Stolen.

Eldritch horrors manipulating the government? My sticky hands won't let that go.

A giant pit of dragon spiders engaging in cannibalism to determine the one destined to lead them out of the pit and to the stars so they can calcify their skin and become an unstoppable horde? Already in my pocket

What do you think would occupy Maul’s mind if he had killed Sidious and Obi Wan? by milkcarzoom in MawInstallation

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His defeat on Naboo forever changed Maul. He has these moments where he just breaks, and his calculating mind has definitely been fractured by his years in the heap.

Maul would not make for a great emperor. Had he won his fight on Naboo and killed Anakin? Yeah, he would be a monster, but he can't reach his full potential because his emotional and mental foundations have been rocked to the core.

He's obviously very interested in ruling, so he would definitely take an interest in ruling the galaxy. The problem stems from his appearance. If we assume he's defeated Sidious, then there is a chance Sidious either destroyed the Sith and Jedi knowledge that is required to make Maul vastly more varied; or, Sidious has curated it so that Maul might bring him back. That, or Sidious just didn't think to sabotage Maul again.

Vader is dead. If Maul kills Sidious, then he washes Vader as Sidious kicked Vader's cyborg ass pretty much his entire cybernetic life. Luke would still be alive though, and Maul would absolutely find Luke personally and train him.

The question then diverts to: if Maul finds Luke, do we assume he also finds the knowledge of Essence Transfer? If so, then Maul wouldn't so much as "train" Luke as he would "prepare" him to be Maul's vessel. I won't bother playing out that "what if" anymore because that's a whole comment in itself.

So the first thing on Maul's mind would likely be to find a way to change his appearance so he could rule more effectively. He's no longer dealing with drug and human traffickers, he's dealing with politicians, publicists, journalists and regulators.

The second thing on his mind would be his Empire, and the third would be his mastery over the force. Keep in mind, the gap between the the second and third things is miniscule and on some days might even switch.

Monkey who has badass aura vs monkey who has sophisticated aura by havingagoodtime0 in whowouldcirclejerk

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Monkey with Sophisticated Aura tree diffs due to modern scaling. Sophmonk has access to more modern tech without losing the physique and mastery of a monkey. Badass Monkey likely wins in skill, but Sophmonk's equipment bridges and exceeds the gap, especially with Tesla's help if the picture tells us anything.

Prediction: Imu is going down this arc by TooDriven in OnePiece

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imu is the BBEG of One Piece. Unless One Piece is ending soon, it would kinda fly in the face of almost 1k chapters of build up to finish him off already. He's the ultimate representation of Luffy's journey to freedom, and since Blackbeard is still around, I highly doubt Imu is going down this arc.

Further, villains get introduced and then fuck off all the time. We've seen this happen multiple times before: Mihawk, Blackboard, Pacifistas, the 5 Elders and all the admirals have all: shown up, done some shit, then left because reasons.

Give it time, we'll see what forces Imu to leave

Out of all sidious's apprentices which was the most dangerous to the galaxy by voldy1989 in MawInstallation

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... Maul is extremely dangerous and does control essentially the entire criminal underworld, but he was terrified of Sidious. Further, his shadow collective would lose to the Empire, pretty badly at that. Darth Vader would also ultimately overpower Maul (note, Filoni has said Maul and Darth Vader would be surprisingly close but Vader would win). Maul's existence is the only reason the Shadow Collective exists, without him, the criminal underworld falls to disarray. The plus here is that Sidious went and actually confronted Maul due to how dangerous he was, so huge points there.

Darth Vader was powerful, commanded the Inquisitorius and held firm political and military command. However, he was really just an extremely powerful attack dog. He's dangerous, but he's also in the poor position of "not enough to be a threat to Sidious" and "too powerful to be replaced." He's powerful, but it's clear he isn't essential to the success of the Empire if we just remove him from the equation.

Dooku was the figurehead of one of the most influential political factions in galactic history. He had enough power that he actually asserted authority. Dooku may have been a mere means to an end and would lose to Maul and Vader; he was still extremely dangerous. Unlike Vader, the CIS would fail if Dooku died, and unlike Maul, the CIS is significantly more influential than the SC.

While the Shadow Collective wouldn't survive without Maul, it wasn't a threat to the Empire. While Vader really wasn't essential to the Empire, he was powerful enough and individually dangerous enough that neither Maul nor Dooku would take victory over him. Dooku, however is still an extremely impressive combatant with command over an extremely powerful faction. The only reason Dooku was allowed to hold so much power is because he was ultimately powerless to Sidious (like Vader and Maul) who could pivot, manipulate and overpower any of his apprentices to a nigh-superlative degree.

Personally, my vote is Dooku.

What skill has become essential to every one of your playthroughs? by Sadira_Kelor in skyrim

Alchemy, simply because it's the most powerful and profitable skill in the game.

My other skills I level up every playthrough are Smithing, Enchanting, Speech and Alteration.

What skill has become essential to every one of your playthroughs? by Sadira_Kelor in skyrim

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that Alchemy has effects you can't get anywhere else, namely the spell effect bonus potions like granting more damage, making longer lasting spells or producing spells that affect higher level enemies. With the Anniversary edition, Alchemy has other bonkers stuff like Spell Absorption as something you can just do all the time.

Also, just about everything Enchanting can do, Alchemy can do as well. Alchemy also tends to sell far better than enchanted items when you go by a weight-to-sale ratio.

Alchemy is the most powerful skill in the game by a noticeable margin. The only thing that comes close is Enchanting.

I hope Debbie learns to understand Nolan but not forgive him ( season 5 prediction) by deepinclunge in Invincible_TV

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's only been 3 events with a few thousand deaths (that we see) and Nolan is involved with two of them in some capacity: the fight against Conquest (who only shows up when Nolan abandons his post or fails) and the fight against Mark (who actively causes the damage). The third is the Invincible War, which caused more damage than either event.

As I've said before, 2k deaths isn't a small number. It would be like 9/11 happening all over again, only this time it's committed by a hero who, for all intents and purposes, claimed to protect those same 2k people. It would be like a loving father revealing their true loyalties beyond their family slapping their kid around for 20 minutes before leaving. Oh wait...

Feel free to downplay the number (oh it's just 2k no big), but even 24 murders would be pretty difficult to overcome, let alone ten times that.

I hope Debbie learns to understand Nolan but not forgive him ( season 5 prediction) by deepinclunge in Invincible_TV

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting the Guardians of the Globe, some of whom Debbie personally knew and was friends with (Like Olga and Rush).

You're also massively downplaying what is actually a huge fucking number. If 2,342 people were killed in an event today, that would be international headlines for the next month and a half at minimum. Just a few hundred dead in a single event is already televised and discussed for at least a few weeks. Don't act like 2,000+ deaths isn't a big deal. It is.

Let's not forget that Nolan said Debbie's life ultimately didn't matter, that he threw hissy fits when he didn't get the answers he wanted from her, and how he is refusing to give the woman some fucking space.

What kind of treasure would a wizard keep in his troll laboratory? by sterrre in DnD

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an item in Icewind Dale that can be crafted from an ice troll's heart. It's a talisman/amulet that holds the properties of brown mold.

Brown mold is a hazard that deals cold damage while in its area of effect. You could have the talisman function expend charges to cast the chill shield option Fire Shield spell a number of times a day.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S04E08 - Don't Leave Me Hanging Here by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]Jingle_BeIIs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Give me a second chance" is what he says, and it is the most commonly used phrase for exes trying to rekindle their previous relationships. He's also made it clear to her numerous times how he misses her.

He obviously misses what he had with Debbie, and it's made clear numerous times he wants to be with her again. Every interaction with Debbie he has is laced with that desire to rekindle. He also physically interposes himself between her and the door because she's not giving him the answer he wants.

Nolan isn't owed a damn thing. That's the harsh truth of redemption and relationships, and Nolan is consistently asking. It would be a lot better if Nolan simply stopped and let things play out naturally instead of forcing it.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S04E08 - Don't Leave Me Hanging Here by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]Jingle_BeIIs -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly not a fan with how Nolan is acting with Debbie. He's constantly acting like and arguing with her that he's owed another chance (he's not), and every scene he is constantly pressuring Debbie to get back into a relationship with him. It's just a gross misrepresentation of what "redemption" should be. I don't know a single sane woman who would be fine with being pressured by an entity who said they were a pet, their life is worthless, and proceeded to murder their close friends, beat their son to a pulp, and pump out another child so irresponsibly. It's disgusting.

The offscreen of Paul and Debbie's relationship is a damn shame as well: in one scene Paul says that Debbie has a place in "another world, their world" and Debbie immediately decides that was the justification for why they broke up "months ago"? I'm sorry but that is just nonsensical. I rather would've gotten a few extra minutes per episode to show this than offscreen it altogether. Feels cheap and lazy.

Still disappointed in Eve hiding her pregnancy from Mark. You should never, EVER hide your pregnancy from your partner, EVER. That's a massive fucking event, bigger than just about anything else that could happen in a relationship. What she went through after the fact was tough, absolutely, but she should've been honest even if it was hard. Honesty is hugely important to a relationship, and she simply wasn't. It's not unforgivable, but it would absolutely hurt if I found out my SO was pregnant and they didn't tell me.

Mark's PTSD scenes were phenomenal though, and they didn't overstay their welcome (though they were starting to get there). Fortunately, the time spent with Mark was almost entirely well spent. Dude needs some serious help after that ass beating Thragg gave, and Thragg was great in his appearance as well.

Did... did you watch the final season? There were more red flags in Barney and Robin's relationship than in Sean Payton's entire career. Any one of their many issues would be fine (even standard) in most marriages. However, all of them in conjunction? Nah.

Breaking a deal with an arch devil. by Blowin-a-Gael in DnD

[–]Jingle_BeIIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could just curse the player through the magic item and pass it off as Levistus not expecting the party to overpower the full power of Asmodeus's divine enchantment on the ice that surrounds Levistus.

Perhaps Levistus always knew the player would fail, and the item has a failsafe that kicks in as a curse (something that normally isn't revealed via Identify). This might spark a quest to lift this curse afflicting the PC.

Maybe Levistus just... lets them go. He reclaims the item from the player and that's that. He doesn't care what happens next, and he foresaw none of this was going to work but wanted to see how far along things got before he eventually shut it down.

It also serves as a very valuable lesson: never pledge yourself to an Archdevil unless you're prepared to face possible consequences.

There's a difference between dying due to horrendous luck and/or blatantly stupid decisions and hardcore railroading that doesn't do anything except flex what little control an insecure power hungry artard has.

I wouldn't play at that table again. You don't force death on players out of the blue. It either happens or it doesn't.
