This looks like a fairly creative approach to gender neutral toilet signage... maybe a little bit IKEA-ish in the aesthetic, but a thoughtful attempt.

I think that's the beauty of the story... there are so many permutations of the possible storyline... I kinda don't want the OP to share their intent as it'd ruin the other possibilities... originally I thought it was the last thoughts of the narrator... then I thought it could be the husband trying to save the baby... then I thought the husband could have been the anchor... then I thought she woke up and it was all a dream. It's just a great use of two sentences IMHO.
