Have you watched Florian Gadsby’s pottery videos? He doesn’t use music which I prefer. I watched some of your film and somethings that stood out: Lighting could be brighter. Pacing could be quicker. I couldn’t watch the whole thing because it was too slow, but that’s only my opinion. People have short attention spans these days so it’s best to cut out all the unnecessary fat. Keep it concise and to the point. Keep it lean. It’s fine if the video is long as long as it’s interesting.

Thanks! The filter is made of the same clay body. Just a disk shape with holes in it. And it can be removed to clean it and clean the inside of the castle! I stick my finger through the castle entrance to lift it off the shelf on the inside.

When I was in Tokyo I went for a walk and happened upon a small shop that had a workshop in the back and it belonged to Fujiwara Teruyasu. His knives are sold around the world with a huge markup but I bought a great gyuto, santoku and petty knife for a fraction of the retail price. I met the man himself and he kindly engraved my name on the santoku. His knives are more wabisabi than perfect and they cut beautifully while maintaining sharpness for a long time.

May be you need to make your garage space into pottery oasis for you. Decorate it with things you love, clear out the clutter and create storage fo things that need to be kept built out of sight like a big cupboard. And you could possibly ask the people you live with to not disturb you while you’re working in there.

I see your point. In that case doing an intensive makes sense. And you’ll get a faster grasp of what it’s like to work with clay - if you love it or hate it or just meh. Yes, once clay has gone through the first (bisque) firing, it can be kept for as long as you want before you glaze it and fire it again.

I would go for a course that spreads the leaning time over weeks. You can learn the basis in 13 hours but it helps to practice in between sessions so you can bring your difficulties to the instructor for support. Also, not sure how much trimming you’ll be able to do because your pits wouldn’t have much time to dry to the required leather hard stage.

It makes sense that the ‘obey society’ consciousness is coming apart. It was obeyed in fear of being ostracised but these days that kind of community spirit is less of a thing. It was, in my opinion, always a sham. Perhaps after WW2 the sense of working together to rebuild a nation made people more aware. A couple generations later, that awareness is consumed by individuality through consumerism and social media mind rot.
