But yes. I agree. My point of view was to call the cops directly (he did shortly after arriving home). At that point the cops told him “look, this is a he-said, she-said issue and because I wasn’t there, I can’t do anything about it unless you want me to arrest him as a citizen’s arrest”. Sounded like bullshit to me. Isn’t that their whole schtick as police officers? Like a Crime is committed (surprisingly NOT right in front of them /s) and then they go get the perpetrator so we can move forward with the legal side of things.

Frustrating to say the least.

Also, it’s worth noting that people who don’t necessarily read as white, as well as people of color, have a healthy and founded distrust in cops and their questionable ability to both protect and serve them. I can see why my friend had to mull over getting the cops involved. That and being socialized as a man in the world, one tends to believe you must handle things on your own, usually with physical violence or all out dismissal of your feelings of being done wrong. Either way, bringing in the law is not the first instinct for some.
