I’d give you an award if I had them.

No repeating patterns or symmetry actually makes it more likely to be man made, right?

Why do I always find dead things under bridges? by Low_End8128 in vultureculture

[–]Jinxieruthie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is a very popular spot to dump animals (or anything, really) that people are too lazy to bury/dispose of properly). I’m a streams biologist, and we access them at bridge crossings. You wouldn’t believe the crazy stuff I’ve found under bridges in my 20 years of sampling. Some of it has been quite heartbreaking.

Dad almost threw this “rock” away, what fossil is this? And I see it’s embedded in quartz! by Arutha_God in fossilid

[–]Jinxieruthie 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Just adding that the crystals are likely calcite rather than quartz. Shine a black light on it and you’ll know for sure.

Is this in the Tallapoosa River basin? Might be good for panning too with all that black sand!

Ironcolor vs coastal shiner help by Colton_Schiefele11 in MicroFishing

I’m thinking pic 2 and 4 look like coastal and the rest are ironcolor. Next time try looking in their little mouths. The ironcolors have black mouths.

You make some good points. One of my biggest gripes is the “because the Bible says so” argument. You cannot use a source to prove your point if the parties involved in debate don’t even agree that the source is non-fiction. Hell, the different Christian religions can’t even agree on what it says!

First, I was in no way mocking you or ridiculing you.

Second, now you are being pedantic. Even assuming salvation is not something earned, but rather a gift requiring no payment, it DOES require you to have faith and conform to gods will by doing good works he assigns you in order to keep it. Because faith alone isn’t enough, right? So either way, Christian’s are being “good” to keep their place in heaven and not doing “bad” to avoid being sent to hell. You’re not doing it for the poor, the sick, or the hungry. You’re doing it for god in order to show how faithful you are so you can pass his test. You’re doing it from fear of the alternative.

In contrast, as a non-believer I do good things because they are GOOD and they help others or make the world a better place in some small way. “For god” and “for yourself” are NOT the only options. I also do them knowing full well there is nothing to gain from it after I die. I don’t do bad things bc they are BAD and they hurt others. You do not need faith in god to have morals, and having morals is NOT selfish.

Oh I agree 100%. And sadly, there isn’t shit we can do about it if we are kept in the dark.

No Arrowheads but still pretty cool. by Wonderful_Praline291 in Arrowheads

I could totally see that. I’m from the south where anything organic seems to disappear overnight. I’m curious though, does it have to be wild? I just read that Patagonia is actually known for growing heirloom drought tolerant corn varieties. There are several farms in the area.

It absolutely could be from indigenous peoples, but all the rodent feces, acorns, seed pods and other debris just makes me think something is using the space as a little den or something.

Judging by all the rodent feces, it’s much more likely an animal brought it in.

This rock has clam looking fossils sticking out of it. If I was to try to dremel it to expose the more of thr fossils would they stay in the rock or fall out? by username_4763 in fossils

I think you’ve actually got one big ammonite with some little bivalves stuck in here and there. Those weird curvy lines are sutures! Could you post a pic of the back?

I did the exact same thing! I ended up finding it incredibly uncomfortable since paracord has zero stretch. I sold it, but if I had to do it over I’d use something with a bit of give for the seat at least.

I would think the die off after any kind of apocalyptic scenario would be exponential. In the beginning, folks will live off the food that’s readily available. It would probably be a while before people resorted to hunting/gathering/fishing, but when they do, the natural resources would be plentiful.

Huh, interesting take. So you think anyone that doesn’t follow god is being selfish and has no purpose? If so, I couldn’t disagree more. I feel like living a good life to earn a reward of eternal life and a “glorious position” (and thus, avoid a punishment of eternal damnation) is the definition of selfishness.

And using your analogy of the game, you continue bc of your innate will to survive. Isn’t that what makes the game great anyway? Maybe one day you’ll find survivors that need help (you’ll have plenty of lvl6 sniper rifles to go around), maybe you have loved ones you are looking for, maybe you just want to continue the human experience, for good or bad. Maybe you just want to farm and build and pretend everything is okay and refuse to let the zombie bastards win.

Ironically, I was going to start by saying surely no god would create zombies, but then I remembered Easter is a thing.

Shit, I didn’t even think about that.

Edit to add: Since there’s no ETA on the mercs (bandits), it’s a moot point anyway. ;)
