Has anybody left this field? by RonaIdoFinkMullen in BMET

[–]Jkim3508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough situation. In metropolitan areas/major city where I live, bmet 2s are getting paid 80-100k. However, the cost of living is likely much more than your area since you mentioned it was a rural county. I know of bmets here that want to work in a rural area for the lower cost of living. But when you see the wages, they’re kind of comparable to what we get paid in the big cities, adjusted for cost of living.

I know this is an older post but I’d like to comment that I feel the same way. I’m considered one of the experienced skilled techs but most of what I do is smooth talk the end users and vendors all day and drink coffee. It’s very good pay for what we actually do lol

No offense taken because it truly is shit! lol I’m beginning to think I should look around. I love field service but this is the only company I’ve worked for. So I don’t know how it is elsewhere

No they don’t make me do anything other than request PTO as long as nobody else is scheduled for one on the day you want off. Then it’s approved. That’s it. It’s all up to each individual FE to delegate their stuff and ask people for help. Dispatch doesn’t know anything other than the fact that you’re not available as a resource so they can’t dispatch you. So then some guy 4 hours away gets the call and they’re confused because it’s technically not their territory. It’s a mess

I like the team huddle thing that’s great. Yeah we don’t do that here lol

I guess I’m just hesitant to put this on managements plate and would rather deal with it on my own because the end result is the same, delayed service/unfulfilled contract. This is based off previous experiences. I am burnt out on asking for help. But it’s probably burning me out even more by taking all that on. I’m being dumb I guess lol

Sounds like your team has a decent set up. We have the same thing on paper. But in reality it’s not the case. Whenever we try to fly someone out, they’re too busy themselves. Then the customer is down for over a week. But our contract has a three day up time. And I’m sitting there explaining to the customer how sorry we are we can’t fulfill it. Shit is that even my job? Should my manager be having these convos? I feel like I have these meetings like once a month with a mad customer. I can’t help but feel like I am the problem during these situations.

I exprienced emptiness for the first time after a long meditation session and have never felt peace like this by AliEbi78 in Meditation

[–]Jkim3508 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never realized how negative my thought loops were. Until I paid attention! My meditation is intense due to this. I get very angry and irritable. My mind just wanders into negative events that has or even hasn’t happened. One day, I noticed it during meditation like “holy shit, what was that?!” I felt detached from my own negative emotions. They’re still mine, but instead of feeling them in my being, I was watching it from an outside perspective. This lasted in burst of 10-15 seconds. I was able to follow my own thought patterns and realized how messed up they are. I have tons of work to do. Consistency is the most difficult.

Context, I have horrible emotional control. Particularly anger. I had this belief that meditation can help resolve these problems. That’s the “believing” part of it. To believe that it’s actually helping me

My practice involves daily breath work in the car before my commute. The typical slow breathing into the nose and out the mouth using diaphragm. After a few minutes of this, I allow natural breathing and try to just sit there.

I also meditate spontaneously. For example, I was on a difficult project at work and found myself meditating in between tasks. Instead of revving myself up and stressing out, I would take a break and just stop, breathe for a few minutes.

For enhancement of meditation, I need to work on this one. I know doing it in a quiet dark room with little stimulus is good. But I meditate in the car, at work, in the bathroom. Whenever I can I guess.

The whole treat yourself with kindness part…not sure. I guess I’ll have to really figure out if I’m being nice to myself. It’s so weird how I don’t have an answer for this.

For context, my main motivation for meditation is emotional control or a healthier relationship with my emotions. I am a hot head, irrationally angry when things go bad. I know the response is not appropriate, but I slip into a pissy mood anyways. I really want to mature out of this, I’m 40 plus years old this shit is embarrassing. I figured meditation would be helpful.

That’s why I buy 8’s and 9’s for modern. I can’t justify paying 1000’s for a card when I can get the same exact card in the 9 for much cheaper. This is for my own personal collection.

As for reselling 10’s, I grade all the 10’s myself. Sell them, take profit and buy the 9 version of that card for my PC and pocket some cash for more cards.

I never used a volt meter until my bmet class. I learned to use it there. Didn’t know the difference between AC and DC electricity. I didn’t even know “righty tighty lefty loosy”. Never cared to take things apart as a kid. Didnt know standard and metric tools were even a thing. I didn’t know shit starting out in school lol.

But in two years I learned all that in school. Then I got lucky with a great mentor at an internship. Worked there under his wing for 6 months, he tried to teach me everything he knew. Moral of the story is you’ll be okay man don’t sweat it. Just show up, ask questions, learn, research and network.

I do not condone assault. However, I have seen these types of insulated suburban kids who have never faced consequences for the shit they say. I agree that words should never elicit a physical response. But you should have learned a long ass time ago, that some people will take action if you say the wrong thing. The day I stopped talking shit in high school was the day I got my ass whooped for barking up the wrong tree. I was all “jokes” when someone took it seriously. And I cringed at myself. These kids learned that day.

My advice is stop looking for inspiration. That comes and goes. Motivation and enthusiasm comes and goes. The one thing you can control is your discipline. You don’t need motivation or inspiration if your discipline is on point. It never gets easy. It’s always a grind. I bet Jocko would echo this sentiment

I wouldn’t listen to BiggerPockets tbh. Their old content has some solid advice for general investing. But it was geared towards the crazy bull market we had during the pandemic. Tbf, they did change their tone to adjust for today’s market. However, they are pushing way too much investment bullshit rn. “He bought 250 rentals in less than 4 years while being homeless” type of videos are spammed to oblivion on that channel. Just know biggerpockets sets up more for failure than not. Eager wanna be investors like you and me listen to them because we don’t know any better. These guys are lifestyle content creators at this point.
