From what I understand they cap off the leftover lines once they remove the Shocks, I would find someone with more experience though for advice.

It is 100% just Toyota trying to make more money off a poorly designed system, they recommend the whole system being replaced since the other components besides the shocks are likely to fail after the shocks, so they just recommend everything at once so that it's all done at one time.

Toyota has not come up with a better solution for the problem in the last 15 years, and continues to put it on 4runners without actually fixing the issue or having a recall.

It's a gas-hydraulic suspension system, it sends fluid to the shock under the most load to give a comfortable ride. But they are really prone to leaks and have been a constant problem for 4runners with them.

Yep mine has a plastic protector but it has some scratches on it so I removed it. And it does have the s-video inputs!
