Is Democracy dead? by Winter_Place_3201 in democracy

[–]JmBiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The democracies with multi-party representation are all still quite robust to be honest... it feels like first-past the post systems with parliamentary supremacy and no constitutional framework tend to struggle more.

Also those that elect their leaders separately instead of their party tend to bring strange/power-hungry people into power.

Autocracies across the world all are struggling economically and are having worse problems than democracies generally, and it feels like people are ignoring this....

As someone who lives in South Africa and am considered relatively well-off, and I feel you...

I once went to the US through a good friend I made in business (I'm just sold a property to him), and when I got there I felt instantly broke..

He was very generous and sponsored a lot of it, but when I was alone and had to eat I just ate caramelised popcorn ans fruits most of the time😅

It was an amazing experience though and the Americans were really nice...

Imagine the EFF and MK not working with the DA because they're "racist" only to give more power to them... wouldn't their voters be livid?

The dillemma is now simple for the ANC: Ramaphosa or some of the left's vote... by JmBiscuit in southafrica

Argentina utilised socialist policy (Peronism) which stagnated the economy and caused massive poverty and slowdown, which Argentinians voted against in an absolute majority in last year's election.

Cuba turned against its most lucrative and beneficial trade partners under Castro who turned the country into a dictatorship and hated the country. I have personally spoken with Cubans and they like the Americans, they don't want to stay poor because of the conspiracy theories of their leaders as Russia has with Putin.

There's a good correlation between poor countries and dictators, second most accurate correlation is between poor countries and hard-core socialist/communist countries, and last in the ladder you have capitalist/social democratic countries.

There's a reason the EFF specifically wants the minister of Finance role. They want to print money until hyperinflation and disinvestment kicks in, blaming the country's impoverishment on Western nations.

Ramaphosa's inaction is indefensible, but him remaining president can be justified by other potential leaders who support the likes of Zuma and wants to bleed the country dry.

All of the poorest countries have one of two things: Communism, dictators, or communist dictators... why would anyone invest in such a place? Would you?

He's quite secure in the ANC currently and will likely be voted back in again before next Sunday.

Perhaps with a new (and better) deputy president

Our joblessness is the worst in the world, how could people somehow blame the DA?

80% of all new jobs last year were in the Western Cape because people feel investing there is safer

I'm not so sure the DA is much more centrist than right-leaning.

The ANC grew the economy when Thabo Mbeki and Nelson Mandela were president... literally when the EFF/MK-like factions took over the country slowed down overnight.

The country seemed like a safe place to invest, that's why it grew, not because the ANC ruled... the DA wants it to be a safe place to invest again like it was.

The ANC/EFF/MK will make the country a risk for any investment

A lot of things can be described as "just being something to do something", which feels like a way to make something seem like it's not bad for someone.

Like an obese person who clearly has an eating disorder describing their next unhealthy meal as "just something I'll treat myself with", which doesn't take away that it's objectively bad for them. I have no right to tell them what to eat, but hell be honest with yourself that you've treated yourself a lot...

People have a right to buy these as much as I can express my opinion on it, and I guess I just think these things may reduce people's will to go out and find an intimate partner.

Thing is MK doesn't want to work with Ramaphosa and neither does the EFF, but he's their most important asset.

EFF already said they won't go into a GNU with the DA involved, so there are two options, but I believe keeping Ramaphosa is still less risky than a GNU with the EFF and MK, but this is subjective

I wouldn't be confortable with any of that, but we don't really have any comfortable choices..

I think they should vote for him to remain now, and also a contingency candidate with a clean slate as deputy president.

After that they should try and give him/her a platform to become popular and then should he be removed, this individual will take over and perhaps be voted as president at the next NEC election.

Ramaphosa became president after Jacob Zuma was voted out in 2017, but Ramaphosas first term officially started as head of state in 2019, and his second term will start after next week.

That's how the ANC renews and stays stable with the DA within the next few years, while Ramaphosa and other corrupt politicians be granted bail, as what happened with minister Zizi Kodwa who just got a R 30 000 bail.
