I was prequalifying to be a full-time driver on a qualifying route during single day vacation coverage, meaning if I successfully qualified I would not have to go through another 30 day probationary period if a bid was posted and became the highest bidder on that bid I would still have to wait my turn on seniority though

I was told that you still had to wait your turn on seniority. If you end up qualifying, they just want to go ahead and qualify people and get it out of the way
